Have you noticed in the past 3-4 months that often diesel is cheaper than ULP.
We've had a few days of 90c litre ULP, but in Perth, nearly all the servos have diesel cheaper than petrol every day
I'm not complaining at all as my DMax is diesel and given the fractionation involved in extracting diesel from crude oil is less (and therefore cheaper), diesel should always be much cheaper than petrol.
Last year BP actually went public and said that diesel (when it was the most expensive of the fuels) was dearer because fewer private vehicles use diesel than petrol and that most of the former went to industry who didn't really care about the cost as they passed it on to their customers (who passed it on the public).
So why is diesel now cheaper than petrol?

Maybe it's because the God's are looking after me,
I own a Diesel Powered 4.2 Patrol, and watch "FUELWATCH'' very closely every day especially the way Diesel fuel prices are going, lets hope the cost of Diesel will fall even lower as time gets near to our Northern departure,
As far as the reason for the cost of any fuel goes, it seems to be entirely in the greedy hands of the Fuel Companies,
Woolworths Caltex here in Perth, are still trying to sting the diesel buyer, by upping their litre price overnight by as much as 10-15 Cpl at different fuel outlets around the metro area, it seems that all Caltex stations take it in turn to try this rip-off, and it's for one day only. ???

there's a hell of a lot more diesel cars on the road now ,especially small Suv,s there becoming very popular..
Add that to the huge number of diesel 4wd vehicles ,trucks commercial vehicles ect ect the list goes on and on diesel fuel sales must be going through the roof..
What excuse do you both have for not going for the GX 200 TTD. With all the mine vehicles going to Auction. The Price has got to be Right. V8 650nt on tap 1600-2600rpm 6 speed 5th-6th overdrive. Barn doors to boot. Oil em every 5000km with a filter and will give you 500,000km plus. You will get a Bull Bar and Cargo barrier throwen in.
One minute the World is running out of fossel fuels. Now we have a Glut.
Jim - I'd never buy an ex-mining company vehicle (or even a shovel) - worked as a subbie on their sites and seen how the staff drive the vehicles. Yep, they get serviced regularly, but driven like racing cars over ground that no vehicle OWNER would take them. Seen lots of Cruisers and Hiluxs smashed beyond repair or under carriage torn off by FIFOs who don't respect their employers property. Guess that's one of the reasons they reckon that Australia is the most expensive in the world to extract primary resources from (and I acknowledge that many competing companies only pay their employees a few bucks an hour in the 3rd world countries)
Ron - I agree with you entirely about the number of diesels on the road, but then the fuel companies. like the Banks, have got used to screwing us over for years now and will no doubt continue to.
Doug - another good reason to move out of QLD mate. Or win Lotto and go slum it with the foreigner's in Noosa Heads (but you would have to get rid of the twins and the head gear to get into any of the oh so trendy bars and bistros lol

Gday...
Unfortunately, the price we pay for diesel fuel, particularly in Straya, has nothing to do with production costs but rather 'market forces'.
In the city, petrol is normally cheaper than diesel. Sometimes you may be lucky to actually find one pump amongst all the petrol pumps. The further you get out the dearer petrol becomes and the cheaper diesel becomes and the more diesel pumps at a servo (in relation to petrol). Maybe country stations can exist on a smaller margin with a bigger turnover on diesel compare to petrol.
Also confuses me that diesel is unrefined petrol and yet costs more.

in Perth metro now, pretty much all the servos built in the last 2 or so years have diesel service at each pump - its a real hassle towing your van into a servo not designed for anything longer than a large car and then trying to find where the diesel is and hoping that you can get around the pumps without being run into by another vehicle or smacking into anything.
The worst I ever experienced was a Caltex Woolworths in Geraldton, WA. Huge forecourt as you drive in but the pumps are tight against the shop, so it was a 4 point turn to get out - obviously the layout wasn't obvious until I had got alongside the pumps or I wouldn't have keep going in

From experience very few Woolworths servos around Australia are suitable for use when caravan is in tow.
what really bugs me about Servos (as well as the forecourt layout) is they put the air hose in stupid places so that if you have a van in tow it is often impossible or very difficult to get to it. Many of the new ones don't have water taps at the pump, so that when the water can is empty (which is fairly normal) you cant re-fill them

I am as confused as you! We are now awash with fuel! Where we not supposed to run out of fossil fuel in 2000? No ! OK how about 2015? No! How about 2020 doubt it! So our fossil fuel will run out when? Really!! I am sick of being manipulated and lied to. The sooner we get electric cars the better. As soon as they build an electric vehicle that can tow my van I will buy it.
We've always had the oil, the problem was getting to it. By the time we'd got half the other half was too deep to get to. It's like sucking it through a straw, the longer the straw the harder you have to suck, until it's impossible.
We always knew about Fracking, it's pumping toxic chemicals into the earth to push the oil up (similar to what we're doing with our gas). Problem with that is all these wells eventually fail and that means permanently polluting the aquifers, water supplies and the land. No one thought we'd be Insane enough to do this which is why you were told we're running out of oil.
The Rich (old men) and the Powers that be (old men) decided it's better to live the High Life now and let the future take care of itself.
