I have upgraded to a late model dmax, and its been great, except for an incident yesterday , when it wouldn,t start. Now, common rail diesels should start very quickly, so I was a bit apprehensive. Installed the OBD 11 module and the error U0001 came up. Can bus communication fault. This means the computer isn,t talking to the motor. Anyway, after disconnecting the neg battery terminal for a couple of minutes, it started no trouble. I was told the battery voltage went down bellow a certain level and the comp shut down the motor. Not good if you are in the bush. I have a 3 battery system , one starting and two house batteries, and one is a bit down. After isolating the house batterys , the error reset itself. Scary, eh. I have a lot of experience with non comp diesels but this is my first comp operated diesel. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Bill
I'd like every vehicle to make these error codes available to the driver via the dashboard. Then someone could remotely assist the driver in the event that they were stuck in a remote area.

I agree totally with you Dorian,
I have printed off the Toyota 200 series, how too's and keep them all in the glovebox . The battery drop seems the be the biggest problem.
First time for me. I have an app called Torque plus which thru the OBD11 dongle which you can read the errors, but you have to go on the internet to find out what they are. No help if in the bush, or out of range.
I use a Scangauge. Here is the link scangauge.com.au/buy-direct/
Having a performance chip it often sends the car in limp mode. Reset error codes using the scangauge.
I have a late model Isuzu Dmax , I bought a Scan Gauge 2 mostly to keep a eye on the auto trans temp . No fault codes have shown up yet ,
I did find a list of codes for the Dmax and have them printed out stored in the glovebox , not a bad idea me thinks .
I often have trouble after changing fuel filters on my PK Ranger, engine warning light comes on and have to reset codes via scangauge, not a problem just a pain
I have bought a workshop manual cd and it lists lots of errors. I would like to know where the fault is not the error. On a good note, you don,t have to bleed my dmax fuel system, just change the filter, and turn the key a couple of times. the electric pump does it for you. Easier than pushing that hand pump under the bonnet for hours, eh.
