Setting Off Preps

Hi All,

Can anyone see if I have missed anything:

1.  Advise AEC

2.  Rental agent to handle - rent, rates (and maybe body corporate payments) - (She is a close friend)

3.  Utilities - gas water, electricity

4.  Landline and broadband - already been in touch with supplier

5.  Aust Post - re-direct mail to another close friend

6.  Storage facility

7.  Doctor

8.  Comsuper and DVA for pensions

9.  Full service on car

10.  Final purchases - emergency rat pack, cyalume sticks etc

11.  Shake down run (short 2-3 days)

Cheers

We have 1/4 bills sent to email and pay over the phone . Turn electric hot water off if it's elect ? Possibly the same for gas ? Car or vehicle serviced. Double checking any small oil / coolant leaks which could fester down the track .. If your out of state of NSW when rego is due ? You have to go to an approved mechanic, sent proof of inspection to RTA . PAY and your done . Oh yes take your good camera with you . Don't rely on smartphone for good pistance pics .,

Thanks Aus-Kiwi,

Good idea re camera.  I will touch base with ACT rego as well to see what they want to do.  There is no need for a yearly check in the ACT.

I will get my agent to handle the bills.  Hopefully with the rental, everything will be transferred into the renters name.

I just need to also check with the body corporate as the bc fees look after house insurance and water usage.  Contents insurance and water connection fees are up to the owners/renters.  I guess liaison with the rental agent on these topics might be the go as well.

Cheers

Thanks Mate.

What a good idea.  Didn't even know they existed...

Served with a few RAAFies as well as a few RAF types in my time.

Some great photos and memories.  Unfortunately none electronically.

Cheers

You mentioned Passport - Take it with you for two reasons
1. Primary Identification for any unforseen Legal matters
2. If going to WA and visiting Hutt River Provence - You can have passport stamped as it is legally another Country, well worth the trip.

Tetanus, Flu (4 in 1), Hep C, Whooping cough jabs for yourself.

Good one re Hutt River.  Same as shots.

Spare parts also a good idea, especially fan belts - I'll source from my pet mech

Curlers and hair dryer - Hmmmm!!!! Seems like you are well experienced in this area Aus-Kiwi, do you think I should check with my coiffuer or can you recommend a particular brand/type?  Moustache trimmer??

The Veterans website is good value! http://veteranretreat.tripod.com/retreats.htm#Lara

Haven't fully explored the site yet, but seems to have heaps of potential.

As others have suggested things to take with you I would add a small first aid kit.

Tyre repair kit and compressor and tyre changing gear already on the list, as is the first aid kit.  Toilet paper - a given as there might not always be a handy bark tree around.

Let's not go too far on that particular topic...

Yes, I always watch my weight...

I also have a sign - "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS"

I don't drink either, but I'm of the general opinion that with some out there, beer and or wine has priority over food when it comes to happy hour.

Cancel newspapers if you subscribe and get home delivered. If you are going on any toll roads put some credit onto an account to cover. I can't think of anything else on the home front. Have a great trip. Cheers.

Last week quick trip to Sydney, set GPS for "No Tolls", great.... trip to destination 38 Km, time mid Friday morning, travel time a quick two and a half hours.  Next time I'll still do it this way cause I hate tolls.

Why hate tolls.  After all, the POOR government (or it's nominated revenue collector) must make money and what easier target than the road user????  I guess road tax is not sufficient to actually pay for what it was intended for...
