It was my understanding, and I'm certain I will get corrected if I'm not, that a caravan owner could only join the CMCA if their caravan has a grey water containment system fitted in order to be able to comply with one of their main selling points when dealing with Shires and councils.
Mine has not, nor do I intent to install one in the near future, at least not until I get some excess weight problems sorted, and that is the only reason I have not as yet joined the CMCA.
I personally could not care less that at I would not be able to vote for office bearers, and being totally truthful I would only join for what benefits being a member would gain me in regard to more low cost places to park the van for one of more nights in an area I wish to visit.

Not correct.
You may have any RV at all, or none at all and be an associate member of the CMCA.
yeah I would like to know where that figure of 5 percent came from? Iam not anty motor home my brother has one , and maybe when I cash in my chips my Mrs might have one
True Iam not a fan of Cmca so I guess you can call me a 5 percenter ,The treatment we received by one of there officials was absolutely appalling.
The 5% referes to the general public that you will always get 5% of people knocking everything just because they can, cmca, the Greg nomads are not exempt happy travels
Well, I started this topic some time ago and have read with enthusiasm your replies. I can easily say I am none the wiser but I have learned that the Caravan fraternity has a equally progressive club doing pretty much the same as the CMCA. This can only be good for RVer's in general with two loud voices some one may just listen and something might just happen.
I figure this topic is a bit like Brussell Sprouts, some people love them and some people don't which makes forums like this important so people can vent themselves. There was one comment about "they don't give us anything" I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate. No they don't send out freebie T shirts, Hats or Mugs but I think the CMCA network is a great tool and can be used to reduce some of the traveling costs. Add to this their voice on RV matters, although it needs to be louder as I have just read that the Camp in Alice Springs has been closed due to the pressure placed on it from the local C'van Park owner.
So with all this behind me I will renew my membership and I encourage others not to join their respective clubs but to have a second, third or even a fourth look at them. If you do go down this route, I would also suggest you question these clubs as to what they are doing in relation to the caravan park lobby group and these shires that bend to a particular commercial interest over the greater good of their community.
Anyway, many thanks one and all and have fun out there........ where ever that is!

Whilst I own a Motorhome, if I was to join any club, it would be a club like the Australian Caravan Club, purely because they have an equal membership base without creating the "them and us" culture that the CMCA seems to do. At the end of the day we are doing the same thing and don't need the "them and us" attitudes.

I am a CMCA member, do9 not have a mhome, am not interested in voting or rallies. I initially joined 4 years ago to get insurance on a cvan that I was unable to get insured with any other company than Ken Tame. I sold that van a year later, and was able to insure the replacement cvan cheaper elsewhere. I carefully weighed up the cost of remaining a member and decided to continue my renewal. The main reason is that through the efforts of the CMCA we now have a lot of black water dump sites around the country that are partially funded but definately organised by the CMCA, also through their efforts we have a large number of RV friendly towns that give various benefits for the traveller. I gladly pay the small renewal fee to enable these and other activities, to continue, that are of great use to all us travellers, whether caravan, fifth wheeler or motor home.

Don't forget this club that actually embraces all RV's and states so in their club title;
