Now some of you might remember when the American war ship Thruxton berthed at Outer Harbor in Adelaide back many years ago. Well, there were many American sailors itching to get acquainted with our Aussie girls and they made every attempt to do so.
Well in this case, three sailors had met up with three sisters who were keen to show the sailors a good time in our fair city. They arranged that the sailors meet them at their house around seven so the girls had time to change & do their make up.
Just after seven came a knock at the door, father gets up from the telly & answers the door. Here's a young sailor who hands him a bunch of flowers and says:
Good evening sir, My name is Joe, I've come to take Flo to a show. Father nods hullo, turns & says, "Flo, here's Joe.
She comes down the stairs, "Lovely bunch of flowers Dad" & off they go. He just sits down again & there's another knock on the door, He get's up to find another sailor:
Good evening sir, My name is Lance, (hands him another bunch of flowers) I've come to take Nance to a dance. Again Father nods, turns, hollers, Nance, here's Lance.
She comes down the stairs, "Lovely bunch of flowers Dad" & they are off to the dance. Father sits down, "Good job I've only got three" he says. Another knock at the door
Another sailor, "Good evening sir, my name is Buck," before he can get another word out, father says, "Yair well on yer bike son keep movin."
