Hi Brian and Cathy - Wow, love your tiny van - what does it weigh - where did you get it - is it home made ? I've got a 2004 Nissan X-Trail and it looks like just the sort of van I could pull easily. Would love to hear more about your trip. .... Val

Hi val, it weighs about 650 kg. Was built in the sixties, was 2 supposed to be built so I was told. It has single beds in it and cook area out back, has side awning and fully enclosed awning on back. We pulled it with the wee golf without any probs at all. It's currently for sale on a site on FB.  We have kids in Perth so it was ideal at the time. Was meant to tow it by our then kombi but that didn't happen. Driven the paddock about 13 times in past 15 years. Can't wait to next crossing, only went over back in January.

Gee, must have been hot driving across in January. I drove across (the first year the road was sealed all the way across, can't remember what year that was) - leaving Kinglake, Vic. on Boxing Day. The people at Balladonia said birds were dropping out of the sky, dying from the heat. It was a nightmare as we had a 10 and a 12 y.o. with us. Would never travel that road at that time of year again. Have thought about getting a 2nd hand double horse float and converting it to a camper. Used to camp in float up in Vic. high country. Trouble is condensation drips on you from fibreglass roof. Enjoy your travels. ..... Val
