Well here we are again, the end of yet another month but first a u turn to the beginning of March is needed. Oooops, a good friend of mine and fellow GN asked me not to say that this time. Oh well, if you don't tell I won't, so I didn't say that....Rocky :)
Anyway and as well even, the month started out hot again and continued well into the month with 30's + during the day and 20's + over night, records being set in the northern central area of VIC. More later.
I managed to get another visit in to see my daughter and grandson down south of Melbourne but this time my son in law was home for the latter part of my visit. Little Max is sitting up by himself now and has started on sloppy solids. I got my cuddles and holds in so a very happy poppy.
Greens lake was as usual very busy at weekends but nice and quiet during the days, although quite a few people with boats came out after work and school due to the heat. all gone by dark thank goodness.
Once again GN's called in for short stays, some I have already known and some new. Again, I even had some people not even GN's call in to see me. They were told by friends of theirs I was there and to make themselves known to me. Nice people too.
Now not long into the month my friend Dave decided he would take a fall down the back step of his van and fractured his left foot, silly bugga will do anything to get out of packing up. Yes packing up. Dave was leaving early month and do some dog sitting for family. His son arrived, packed him up and off they went.
Speaking of going and packing up I was due to leave a week later but decided to pack up and head for Girgarre, just down the road to the East, Tuesday 8/3 where I stayed new years eve. I decided to stay the 4 nights allowed and enjoyed my time relaxing with no boats zooming around etc. The van even got a rinse down using a bucket of water and old face washer. It was then time to start my 2016 northern migration so on 12/3 headed to Yass area and stayed one night at Mundoonen Eastbound rest area on the Hume highway and about 20 mins north of Yass, there is another one on the other side of the road but is called Westbound, both are in the Camps book, nice spot with toilets but no showers etc, no problem for me. Heaps of room for cars and trucks. I grabbed a spot way down the back in the truck area due to the van being hooked up. No problem being there as heaps of room.
Sunday 13/3 I headed north via Pennant Hills, just on the western side of Sydney. I chose to go through that area on a Sunday morning as it's usually quieter. It was and got through painlessly and joining the masses on the Pacific Motorway. After a few hours I found my self in Port Macquarie to visit friends there and stayed a few days to catch up on all the gossip.
Now time was spent visiting various locations with Alan taking a few dirt roads forgetting he didn't have a 4x4 and also and as well even forgetting he wasn't a rally car driver anymore :) We also took a cruise up then down and up again on the Camden Haven River, a lovely morning cruising around looking in on some lovely little villages and seeing the sea eagles being fed, well on this day the pelicans won out over the eagles, bugga. The Friday night before leaving the retirement village Alan and Adele live in, have a dinner at the meeting hall once a month and that was the night so off we trotted to enjoy my first ever meal in a retirement village dining room :) Hope it's not a hint of times ahead :) Wow! what a meal put on by a couple a ladies from the village, the most amazing pot pies and veg followed with bread and butter puddings in single serve pots as well. Yummo and I tell you that for free. Thankyou again Adele and Alan for a great few days.
I left there 20/3 still heading north. Now you have to guess where I ended up. Go on have a go. Did you guess. Well I am now at, wait for it, Byron Bay, not sure how long though so who knows where I'll be next time we talk. Have I said I love Byron Bay yet, well I do. I could go inland or up the coast or even zig zag, when I leave, you never know.
The day after arriving in Byron I had to ask Mr Google how to use a washing machine as I have been doing hand washing for many moons now. He said put money in, turn on and wait. That done, all washing done and everything nice and clean yet again.
Weather, yep, got some again as you do, I mentioned it earlier but thought a little more info was called for. Mostly hot and surprisingly humid everywhere I went, very little rain if any until I arrived at Byron Bay then rained on and off while I was setting up and again heavy rain the first night, the first rains I have been in for many moons now. No complaints as I only asked the weather gods for no rain while actually driving and they cooperated fully, so far, thankyou weather gods.
I planned to be in Byron Bay over Easter and discovered the Blues Festival was on at the same time, I thought that was usually a little later, do your home work better next time Doug, massive event with thousands of people in the area and surrounds. Now I expected it to busy during Easter in such a popular place but THAT busy! Bugga. Did I go to the Festival I hear you ask ? Nope, no way, at $170 on-line ticket and $190 at the gate for one day entry, thousands of people and hot, not this little black duck sorry. Oh! and after another storm Saturday night, very wet under foot Sunday.
I made a very slight adjustment to my original plan and decided to make sure I had anything required early on the Wednesday as people starting to arrive and set up from Tuesday. I stayed at base camp all Easter and spent my time chatting, reading and relaxing, mmmmm, doesn't sound much different to the daily grind really.
A few people have set up around the place with guitars, bongo drums etc so it was rather entertaining during the day and early night but at 3.30 in the morning? Come on guys, enough is enough. Oh well, I chose to be here so can only blame myself I hear you say down the back, yep, you are right. The ear plugs got a good work out as did my ear buds when watching some TV until bed time. I must say though that the group next door did invite me to join them but I declined the offer as they were all young, drunk and probably other things as well and probably really didn't want an old fart like me around. The twins joined them though and are still missing in action. Yep, you heard right, I was re-united with the twins who I allowed to stay here during summer seeing they are not welcome at Greens Lake :).
I am not really sure how long I will be here for but will be further north or maybe even west when we next speak. Time will tell.
Well that's about it for this month so until next time, take it easy everyone.
Oh! I will try and be on the right side of the road next time so I don't have to do a u turn.
