My Coaster has Dunlop 6.50x16 on the back (duel wheels) and Bridgestone on the front 6.50x16 all split rims. Yes I would love tubeless rims and if anyone can suggest where to get them I'm listening.
Mr Coaster has them for $200m ea, way too dear. But the reason for the post is I have to replace the tyres, They are all 17 years old and the rears are cracking in the side walls, The shame is they all have 90% tread left.
Now I have been offered Yokahama Ry01 or Hankook tyres both at the same price of $200 each inc tube fitted. There has been cheaper brands offered but the rating online were not good so have dismissed them.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of what is a good tyre for the Coaster, Something you have put on and are happy with it.
Both those brands you mention are good quality and not a half decent price.. with these 2 you would be getting speed rating and weight loading very handy
If you go that way try to buy new rust band and tubes most important for longevity.
To spend the extra money buying rims would be nice but is it really going to add to your investment or the performance of the vehicle.
If they are 17 years old, they are a disaster waiting to happen!
Like you, we have a mix of tyres on our Coaster, that it came with. As they are about 5 years old, will need to look at replacing them in the next year or two. Will be looking first of all at Dunlops - we ran these on our Landrover and offroad caravan for many years and were really pleased with how they stood up to conditions, the kms we got out of them, and how well the rig tracked with them on.
Tyres cost money in a couple of different ways.
1. When you have to buy new ones.
2. When things go wrong and they fail or get damaged.
3. Because they cause you to use extra fuel.
The 3rd item can exceed both of the other 2 combined, but it is the hardest to evaluate. It is impossible to estimate, simply by looking at them.
All tyres sold in Europe must now come with a rating system that includes relative fuel consumption, noise levels and wet grip. www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/learn-share/buying-guide/future-tyre-labelling
I suggest that Michelin make the best tyres in the world, particularly in the area of fuel reduction.
Thanks for the reply's, I always had my mind set to buy good quality tyres. A side question anyone with a Coaster with the 3.4 NA tackled the road between Bellingen and Dorrigo. I have done the trip numerous times in a lot of different vehicles, But never in the Coaster but I would like to coming back from Coffs Harbour after playing Golf at Bonville. Just wondering how fast it will be up the hill.
It goes over the Liverpool range from Murrurundi to Willow tree at 40km/ph, Not sure what the grade is at Dorrigo compared to Liverpool Range.
