I didn't do it for recognition, I did it for safety. Returning back across the Nullarbor one time a voice comes over "hey mate in the Jayco, are you reading me". Long story short a road train that wanted to overtake, and have a chat! I told him to swing out and that I'd back off (I was travelling!) Murphy's law states that, as he's along side of me, a car appears in the distance. Thanks to contact We knew he'd pass me relatively quickly.

For $20 I got this. When my first call came through I took a few moments to remember it was me!!

Very nice clear sticker you have on your van Triple 333.

It's easy to read and as you have already found, it makes it easy for truckers to call you,

there's nothing worse than having a dirty great Semi come roaring past the side window when you haven't even realised they were behind you.

This happened to us on the Nullarbor last time we crossed, what made it worse was that we were traveling in Thick fog at the time, couldn't see a MT in front of us,.

this Semi came roaring right up and turning on all his lights, never lost a rev, shot past us and vanished into that white wall, in his impatience to pass,he forced three cars off the road and never even called us to say he was coming past,  Flamin Idiot !!!

KJ - personally I wouldn't have been travelling in thick fog - I would have been off the road quick smart. That was probably the truckies thoughts as well - remember he is higher up than you, and can possibly see a lot more than you can in a car or even 4wd.

Hi jules47,  I don't know if you have ever been on the Nullarbor and struck the fog that can suddenly appear out of no where,

It's uncanny and damned frightening, It can appear in a couple of seconds and be as thick as pea soup,  That's what happened to us,

We were driving a Motor home at the time, so we were almost the same height as a truck, it made no difference the fog blanket started just West of Eucla  and lasted for quiet a few  km's ,it also rose to about 100m in height, so no-one couldn't be high enough to see over the top of it,

This part of the highway is well built up, being also used as a landing strip for the Flying Doctor, apart from parking on the space provided for the plane turn around point,( which was on the opposite of the road )

The rest of the highway has such an embankment, I dare not try to drive off in case I overturned, so we were stuck on the highway,  plus If I did stop there was a very good chance we could have been rear-ended.

I did give this truckie a call on the C.B. after he flew past, I don't know what he was on but he had to think when I asked where he came from, when he finally answered saying it was Melbourne, he still couldn't tell me when he had left there, he thought it was yesterday may-be !!!

Sorry KJ - no offense intended, and no haven't struck that fog - yet - had rain the whole way over in 2005 though - trucks flying past, spraying water all over the windscreen, wipers already working hard - other trips across have been just magic!
