I have a Suburban water heater in my van which has a 240 volt rocker switch that has frozen in the on position and is in a rediculous position which makes it almost impossible to get at, i would like to change it and would appreciate advice on how to do the job from someone who has done it also is there a better switch option than the standard one.
Thanks

Have you thought of getting an Electrician to fit a Power Point in the van connected to the Suburban Power supply. Quite a few van manufacturers fit these in the factory. The Small ridiculous 240 volt switch can then be left on and operate the System from inside the van.
The switch is held in by plastic clips which are part of the switch, it is a fiddly job getting them out from what I have seen. All depends how much length is left to pull the switch out enough to disconnect. They should be a Waterproof switch as they are prone to the elements.
Just replaced my element, blown ( my fault ). remove the gas pipe in the front, 2 screws, comes out with a jiggle. that gives easier access to the rocker switch as kev said it is held in by 2 clips and comes out easy, mine was frozen also bit of wd40 and on / off a few times worked ok.
Hope this helps a bit. cheers bass
Thanks folk for the advice, my heritage van has a front kitchen and I removed a shelf in the front corner to gain access to the Suburban heater which operates on 240 volt and Gas I then discovered a 240 volt lead coming off the heater so i traced it back and found a power point behind the top draw in the row of draws with the heater pluged into one side and the stove plugged into the other side. Problem now solved leave rocker switch on and control power supply from power point.
