I have been missing from participating in the forum, dropping in and have a read and out.
Well we started out life as grey nomads/aussie gypsies in July last Year, we left Melbourne for Adelaide where we had some family responsibilities to take care of. We stayed at the Windsor Gardens Caravan Park for 6 weeks, from there we headed to Pt Hughes on the Yorke Peninsula for 10days, a nice spot with plenty to see and do in the district, but the 1 claim to fame the Copper Coast Council has is the worst maintained road we have travelled on so far.
Our next stop was Minlaton 80ks down the road, Minlaton is centrally located on Yourke Peninsula with easy access to Innes National Park and all the coastal townships, the town has all the facilities you could want, we ended up staying at the caravan park for a month, the park has great grassy sites and fantastic hosts Cheryl and Frank.
Our next hop was to Gladstone in the Southern Flinders Rangers, we spent 2 weeks a the Caravan Park exploring the region which has a lot to see and do, the caravan park is nothing special we wouldn't bother to stay there again, from here we spent 2 weeks in Whyalla. Its sad to see a city on the verge of decay, the amount of vacant shops and houses for sale are an indicator of how the downturn of mining and steel production can effect a community.
Down the road we headed to Port Lincoln for 10 days at a caravan park that has fantastic layout, its own beach and jetty, enjoyed our stay here only to return for another week after Venus Bay, we spent a week at Venus Bay I loved the place, whilst the vans are packed in on white shell grit and sand its truly a fisherman's paradise with boats for hire and a jetty that produces King George Whiting, Salmon and Squid.
After our week in Pt Lincoln we went to Jewel in the Crown of the Eyre Peninsula Caravan Parks, Arno Bay. Great grassy shaded sites, where you can sit back and listen to the waves crashing on the beach, for a township that has little left to offer except for a pub and a little supermarket, which is abit of everything a what mum forgot shop, groceries hardware fishing tackle etc etc. But its the Park management that mark the park what it is, the fish chips and salad wed and BBQ Sat for $12 a head or recovery sunday with a pancake & coffee breakfast. If you need doctors, chemist or a bigger supermarket Cleave is only 30k away. One thing is for certain we will return to Arno Bay next Summer.
We made a commitment to spent Xmas with family in Adelaide so it was eventually back to Windsor Gardens CP, planning to leave here at the end of the holiday season failed, we had intended to make a flying visit to Newcastle, leaving the van in Adelaide, we took off mid way between Hay and West Wyalong trouble struck, the engine warning light came on, and we were put in limp mode, we made it to Goolgowie, it was all over red rover we had done a timing belt. It took 3 weeks to get the car back, we spent that time in Canberra with our youngest son, who loved having mom there to cook all his mums favourite meals.
Returning to Adelaide we decided to remain at WGCP till the end of Feb, which gave me some time to fine tune the van, out came the 90ltr 3 way fridge and fitted a Samsung 228ltr Inverter fridge, I turned the Jayco's lounge into an entertainment unit and bookshelf.
Leaving Adelaide we have stayed a week Mt Gambier, and Port Macdonnell another great little beachside caravan park, and now we are in Horsham on our way to Nth Qld for the winter.
We tend to wing it not planning where our next stop will be until we arrive, we use Wikicamps a lot and prefer to spend a week at least wherever we stop to explore the area.
Yep great story ......love reading these types of posts....it give a good insight into what we expect life out there in the playground will be like. Also gives us ideas as to where to go so the positive recommendations are good to hear about
Really lookinig forward to it......
