Speed limiters .. Sheesh


Been out on the highway for two weeks or so. Found how dangerous speed limited trucks are when passing . Sheesh make sure the semi your behind can pass the road train BEFORE following him !!Or the merge can be compicared . 3 into 1 doesn't mix .. Another when cars pass .. DONT pull infront of truck too fast or slow down ! My cruise control is set on 95 kph . Speed limit 110 kph . There's no need to pull infront and slow down when speed limit is 10 - 15 kph more ! Or why pass !! Seems drivers are more worried about getting a speeding ticket than safety also .. Why sit out on other lane passing for longer than you have to ?

I've noticed that some people overtaking seem to get to about my side mirrors then start to move into my lane meaning I'm breaking to avoid them. They obviously don't know to wait till they make the manoeuvre

agree with you both. Most truckies are professional and skilled enough to knowledge their rigs limits and don't get him and me into dangerous situations as you've both outlined, but have struck a few cowboy drivers who think theyre in a V8 car.

I find car drivers to be the worst - they overtake in dangerous situations (or even when there are no overtaking lines painted on the road), don't understand that we tend to slow down as we're going up a serious hill and nearly run over the top of you and the list goes on.

Found the best drivers to be Toll and Linfox - never had a bad one yet in the 5 States we've driven extensively through. Some are even courteous and will call you up to pleasantly advise you of their intention to pass and then thank you afterwards. Even had one tell me my jockey wheel was still down !! (I stopped as soon as it was safe and he was wrong) but good of him to look to the left, rather than straight ahead as he passed me lol

Don't talk to me about TOLL drivers being good, nearly got wiped out by one trying to overtake on double whites !!

 That's an old trick of truckies, Tell You something is wrong with the van, normally "stoplights not working". The high percentage of the cowboy element in the truck driving industry hate caravans. Totally designed to P*** You off.

Having CB is quite interesting . I have dash Camera . An d fella pulled out infront of me in Victor Harbour making me break hard then stopped to turn right . Sheesh ! Downloaded off dash camera and sent it into authorities . No need for that so if thing on our roads . I nearly clipped the back of his small vehicle . While he gave me the single finger .. Apparently he's getting a please explain ..

Have to say the Toll and Linfox drivers we've always found to be outstanding drivers and courteous are in WA lol !!

The worst was a large SA trucking company on the Pt Augusta Coober Peedy Rd. Doing 110kmh on a windy piece (probably the only bit of road like that) this trucker was riding on my caravan bumper. I called him up on the CB and told him I would pull off the road in 1km at the next sign posted rest area (the metalled shoulder was too rough to move over immediately. He acknowledged what I planned to do and I pulled right off and stopped (I had to turn round as the entry/exit was the same). He drove past with no thank you or kiss my a***.

The Toll driver who told me about the jockey wheel also chatted for 3-4 minutes about the wonders of my tow ute as you also had one - so don't think this guy was winding me up

Coming South from the new section at Kempsey on the Pacific Highway NSW Three B Doubles in front Turned onto the new section and No3 came out to overtake 2 and 1 never had enough grunt to get past 2 so sat out there right through to the new service center about 20 K's up the road still never cleared No1 so just pulled over and squeezed up the off ramp to the service center. All three are at fault but you put it down to the Cowboy element that still prevails in the trucking industry. Speed limiters and point to point speed cameras are a pure waste of time as an enforcement measure , needs more red and blue flashing lights mounted of police cars to get a handle on the real situation, especially at night when most highway patrol cars are parked up in police stations or Mac Donald carparks , you would be surprised how few there are out there especially at night and the truckies know it

To a point speed limiters creat this sort of driving . But the guy being overtaken should yield to be safe .. As in my case it SEEMED safe to follow the B Double . But the passing semi kept his foot in it at 100 kph making it almost impossible for the B double to pass .. Leaving both of us out there . Braking and dropping back is just as dangerous ! I can see how cars can be cought in stupid accidents !! I've put this down to experience .. DONT follow a semi or B double on passing lanes unless he is almost past the slower vehicle .. Good thing about SA passing lanes is they have long merging points.. Thing is we where all talking to each other on CB . I said thanks for letting me in .. OK have a good day ..
