We had a 2002 Jayco Freedom Outback, and yesterday we picked up our new Atlantic Endeavour off roader (well maybe rough road?)
Nice to have a bathroom and hot and cold running water!
It seems to be steady on the road without a WDH, I was a bit concerned the Navara would struggle a bit, but very happy. Picked up from Pelican Marine at Goolwa SA who were very helpful.
I was surprised to get a good price for the Jayco (sold privately of course)

If you had given us the weights of the van we may be able to express an opinion. What is the ATM figure on the compliance plate? also is your D22 a manual or automatic? is it 2WD or 4WD? Petrol or Diesel? Year model?
Whether a vehicle is struggling is a matter of personal opinion. If you are a lead foot then you may consider that dropping below 4th gear is struggling. Others are content to climb hills in lower gears and are happy to take a little longer to get to their destination.
Poor driving techniques will make the vehicle struggle. If you don't use lower gears to keep the motor revving over 3,000 rpm will make things hard for the tug. Some auto boxes are reluctant to drop back into 1st gear on steep slopes (my Disco did this,) pull the selector back so they change down into 1st and keep your revs up, this will prevent the vehicle struggling.

Hi PeterD,
ATM is 2510, Car is 2011 D22 Navara 4wd, 2.5crd, 5 speed manual 98kw and 304nm with a maximum tow weight of 2800. Towball weight of 200kg.
I'm very happy the way the car handles it, our Jayco had a ATM of 1704kg, and to be honest, I don't notice a huge amount of difference.
I tried to do my homework before we bought the van, as I did not want to get a new tow vehicle. So 2500 atm was my comfortable limit.
I did think about getting a diesel tuning chip installed, but now I have towed it, I really don't think I'll need to!
Thanks,
Brian
PeterD,
Yes, I guess I did!
It seems you can look at figures all day long, but until you actually hook it up to the car and drive, you still don't really know.
Someone who was looking at my Jayco caravan when it was for sale wanted to take it for a test drive. Not such a bad idea I guess! (except he didn't have a brake controller)
Brian
Hi. Very interested in your experience. Geoff and I are picking up the same model new van from Melbourne in July. We are starting to get quite excited. Geoff retiring on 8 July and we should be picking up the van the following week. We have bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel to pull it. Then everyone can eat our dust!
