The road from Daly Waters is all sealed but mostly single lane meaning that you have to get off the road when a road train is coming from the other direction. Once you get to Heartbreak Hotel the road is two lane. Camping at Heartbreak is first class with a great bar.
In Borroloola head out to the fishing club (all sealed road) and another great spot to stop.
I wouldn't take a motor home on the road to Hells Gate as it is rough after the wet season. Heaps of corrugations and washouts, not to mention the crocs.

If your coming from Barkly Homestead it is all sealed but a little bit bumpy in sections. If stopping at Heartbreak Hotel don't park under the trees as bats or birds leave crap all over your roof and if not removed fresh is very hard to get off and the C/Park don't like you washing your vehicle. Fuel is cheaper in Boorooloola than heart break hotel by usually a about 8 cents a litre.
The caravan park in Boorooloola is berry friendly.

I've only travelled down to Borroloola from Roper Bar, stopping at Lorrella Springs on the way. Then out to King Ash Bay & then onto Burketown via Hell's Gate. I've never driven the tar road in via Cape Crawford. The road from Roper Bar is the absolute worst road I've ever travelled on! Even worse than the road between Mt. Dare & Dalhousie IMO. The road into Lorrella Springs isn't too flash either! However, while we were at Lorrella Springs, there were all kinds of cars & caravans there, even a very large 2WD motor home camped there. The road between the Lorrella Springs turn off & the tar road into Borroloola was in far better nick than further north towards Roper Bar. The road out to King Ash Bay (the fishing club) is half tar & half very good dirt road (about 20km of each) We were quite amused driving along that road watching people driving at 5-10kmh along the shoulder on the 20km dirt stretch! (clearly people that had driven in via the tar & had very little experience on dirt roads lol!) King Ash Bay is definitely worth the effort IMO. Full services at King Ash Bay & Borroloola. The road from Borroloola to Hells Gate is an absolute cracker! The very best dirt Hwy I've ever travelled on anywhere, especially on the NT side. However, there are a handful of water crossings along the way & several have steep entry/departure angles. Roadtrains traverse them, so they're not that bad, but its best to be aware that they're there. Fuel & limited services & serviced camp ground at Hells Gate. Fuel & food at Doomadgee. The road goes through a gorge at the Doomadgee end & there was a massive bulldust wallow there when we went through, up to the side steps on the Navara. The road is tar from Doomadgee to Burketown, which has full services & is a wonderful place!
I would have no hesitation driving the roads in a 2WD, if it weren't for the water crossings. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but my wife has made it clear that she is never going along the Roper Bar - Borroloola road again (and she has travelled a lot of dirt roads!)
