Hey Charles

There's a number of sites around that will help you work this out. You have to know what your usage is going to be first. For example, are you running a fridge off the batteries? You will also learn a lot more from doing the calculations yourself, rather than just getting into a to and fro here.

Here is a sample: www.solaronline.com.au/solar_system_basics.html

Hi everyone. I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself, I put this post on somewhere but it seems to be gone so bear with me please. I've 900 watts of panels, seven 100 ah batteries of all different ages. A 1000 watt plus 3000 watt inverter, one of which is on all the time. I use the toaster, the microwave and anything else that crosses my mind. Leads from the car to the van. Basically try not to get too bogged down, it's 12 volts, if it sparks it's alive. Anyway it's all good fun, enjoy. I free camp most of the time. Take care all. Woody46

I would say you have it covered . Other than the largest potable panel you can store or carry with you .. Personally due to theft etc I prefer them permanently on roof ..

hi
you need to have some idea of what u are running now and in the future . amperage consumption
150-200watts of solar per 100ah of battery
Many battery makers spec 10 amps per 100ah batt
200watts solar produces around 11 amps max
A 60 lt fridge draws upwards of 60ah in 24hrs
Peak sun hours during a day winter2-4hrs , summer 4--6hrs
A 60lt engle draws around 800 watts in a hot summer climate per 24 hrs
800 watts has to be replaced 200 watt panel 4hrs [ it always takes a little longer in the charge process ]
NB Inefficient systems apparently u need to derate system by about 20-30 percent
200 derates to 140w
200w portable trifold are easier to carry but cost more dollars than twin fold units .
160 come in twin fold
Both sets are a little heavy but u don't have to take them far for setup .

Then just add 200 watts on the roof either 100w x 2 flat style or traditional single piece 200w in 12v [cheap ]
