I have a home made slide on , mounted on the 4wd model of your vehicle, and suggest you go on gumtree and put in slide on in the search zone. I would recommend you get the best you can afford, and upgrade your back suspension. I have ironman load plus helper springs on the back of mine and they are great. One with a toilet and shower would be great. Bill

Hi there! I have had a 2 slide ons over the years, one large one with shower on a Ford F250 and more recently one on a Falcon RTV ute for 9 years. I can't help with the brands listed however i have seen some extraordinary high quality slide on campers, light weight, fully moulded body and all fittings of the highest quality marine stainless steel. Very impressive quality I have not seen better and they are manufactured by a company called Penguin Composites in Tasmania. I would suggest that you contact them for more info if interested. I'm not good at getting the link to go active but copy and paste and it'll work, I've had 5 slideons over the years from $55,000 down to my current eco model of $5000, trying to drag out the money as long as I can and keep on campering, Happy camping.

Hi recall,I have a Dmax Duel cab 4x4.my Q to you Sir is your DMax a single cab-Space Cab-or Duel cab chassis. We looked at a side on for a space Cab and I was going to get a Trayon or Travel lander. My wife wanted the Trayon then she thought a duel cab would be a better vehicle in-case we get grand kids.So I bought a Duel Cab and a slide on would breaks is back. Even tough I have beefed up suspension it's NOT worth the risk.I have heard of a guy who has a Duel Cab DMax and he had a duel wheels fitted and engineered the chassis to take a slide on. We will be pulling a commander S Camper.

I have no info on the slide ons you are thinking about. I have quite a large slide on ( 900 kgs) with shower. Because of the size I chose the Ford f250. Can't even feel the camper on the back, I drive with the peace of mind that the "Effie" is solid enough to safely take me & my camper wherever I want to go.

Responders. Thx for the input and replies. Now to hit google and follow them up. Bill12, thanks re suspension tips, going for an airbag suspension with push button adjustment for different road types terrains etc. Luv the DMax, presently getting over 40 miles per gallon empty. Toilet shower a must. Hunny Bunny. Bloody hell, I think I will be eating Effie"s dust when you pass me. Nice rig. OzTrack Mine is a single cab. My brother (Fitter and Turner/welder) has assured me that a Slide on (under one tonne) is definitely NOT a problem for the chassis however like yourself and Guru he recommended an airbag spring etc etc upgrade. Foot print , yep if they were on the mainland I would definitely give them a go but I want after sales service. Look up Ozcape/Wombat good web pages gonna visit both before purchase. Overall loaded, ready to travel, weight is your biggest enemy as well as its distribution.

The best start is an alloy tray and keep it low.An alloy framed camper would be a real bonus. Do not forget that airbags do not reduce the weight.

I have had Land Cruiser Trays with a "slide on " for the past 30 years. I have not had an alloy tray or camper frame .

KJB Too true re weight. Interesting utube vids (Australian of course) re incorporating the proper weight distribution of the Slide on in its design. There is a lot to be learnt.
