Hi to all forum users. I am seeking your input to assist with my trip planning. Has anyone towed a 22ft highway van into and stayed in the Takarakka Bush Resort caravan park at the gorge in the months of June / July, what were the facilities like, how good was the road once the blacktop was left, and were there any problems with the creek / river crossings? Does anyone have any suggestions to other caravan friendly spots in this are?. I hope to do this trip this year and any advice would be most welcome. Cheers, happy vanning and stay upright.
Whilst ours was an offroad van, there were plenty of ordinary vans at Takkarakka when we were there - and some of the size of yours. There were also ordinary cars. From memory, there is only about 20kms of unsealed road. We encountered a couple of cattle grids that required one to slow right down; were no issues with creek crossings etc. BUT - and I stress this - do NOT go in there if rain is expected. The road in and out gets closed very quickly when it rains - and with good reason. Takkarakka is in a valley and the hill each way gets chopped up really quickly and gets very slippery, which is why the raod gets closed, for days on end. So - check advance weather forecast beforehand. Or be set up to wait out the road closure - the road dries pretty quickly again.
Takkarakka is a very pleasant place to stay - especially the part of the campground on the right hand side as you go in - it is in a big loop of the creek and less formal than the main part.
The Gorge is a great place to visit.

Free camp near the aircraft wreck on the way in if you like we did and enjoyed it. Towed van into gorge carpark and did the sightseeing and drove the 15k (??? approx. back to aircraft wreck)
A great day.
The CP was very expensive IMHO.

Stayed there earlier this year nice and clean quietest roos I've ever seen. The road in was no problem a bit dusty but no problems for the van.
The park has an info talk every arvo and that is very useful even if you don't want to have a guided tour they give you a complete rundown on the various walks and some tips on what to see off track as well.

Depends if the road has been maintained. At times the road is badly corrugated and shakes the begeezuz out of you and when it is graded is very comfortable. One time the van in front broke a spring and cracked the chassis.
We were there in August and the road in was very corrugated. We just did it very slowly as you hear every rattle in a motorhome. A couple towing a van flew passed us but were stopped on the side of the road a few Klms in. Just take it slowly and be patient. Are we there yet?
Well worth the trip, good facilities and great walks.
