Never having travelling this way, we would be blessed to know the forum's thoughts re a Falcon towing a 17ft6inch top-pop from Bathurst to Scone, staying in caravan parks and travelling at most 270km a day. Road suitability, not caravan park recommendations (though they are welcome), is our question. Thank you in anticipation. Expected timing of trip is April. Also, West Wyalong to Wagga Wagga via Temora. Thank you in anticipation.

If you use the route in this map then the road surfaces are all bitumen. There is a bit of a range just past Bylong that has some hair pin bends on it. If you are dead scared of this type of road then you may like to choose this route. This one also has sealed roads all the way.
If you take the short route then there is a sports ground opposite the Bylong store with hot showers and a few power points. On the longer route, any of the caravan parks in Mudgee are OK.

Thank you Peter D. Have just worked out how to follow your directions on the two maps (another thing I am not good at is working computers). I have been on the first route as a passenger in a sedan (no van) and would not want to tackle the road leading to Sofala, although I visited there maybe 45 years ago and hope to take my wife there on a day trip while staying in Bathurst. Don't know if it anything like it was, which was fasinating.
Your longer suggestion looks pretty good, and I would probably handle the 303km in a day. That would allow us not to go to Mudgee and would remove one night from our homeward journey (we are at Ipswich in Qld).
You mention all the caravanparks in Mudgee are okay. These outes don't tke us to Mudgee. Did you mean Muswellrook?
I really appreciate your interest and help. Kev

Sorry, the second route should have been this one. I don't know what happened there I thought I had checked it before posting. It does however go through Sofala. I don't know what you see wrong in the route through Sofala, most of us think it is OK.
You could combine this route with the second one in you previous post and go through Portland. That goes through Mudgee. - Link

Guess we will work it out. My comment re Sofala referred to a trip I made with a son to Melbourne and back with a car club in about 2006. We travelled from Bathurst via a shockingly winding, steep road with sharp corners that made our hearts beat harder and our mouth dry as the oncoming trucks (and there were some) approached. Certainly not a route for caravans. We did not actually go through Sofala but saw a directional sign to it. Way back when a young fella I visited Sofala (about 1971 my guess) and it was a really good place to visit. Please clatify the route you have suggested for us and our van, and the "thrill-seekers'" route I have described herein. And thank you again for your help.
