, Back in the early 70's I was posted to South Australia and every chance we got the small family I had would head out and explore the state for good fishing locations of all types. One that has always springs to mind is a beach in SA called Browns Beach , back in the 70's it was like going a Red X trail just to get there but the fishing was magic and the isolation from the mainstream was to die for . For many years and on every beach I've ever stood on with rod at the ready around this country I have always had thoughts of Browns . Over the years I have spoken to many fisho's about Browns and to my amazement not one has ever fished the area or knew how to get there.
Today sitting in a Dr's waiting room I came across a 2009 fishing mag ( a recent release for a Dr's waiting room) and in the opening article there it was Browns Beach SA reading the story to Mrs Wombat and her remarks were "nothing has changed regard access and story ending" . Heading off to SA in a month or so and will make the effort to get over to Browns as part of the Bucket List .
The road is sealed into Marion Bay, and also in Innes NP at least as far as Pondolowie Bay, so no need for the Redex dynamite any more.
Through the 90's we fished Browns quite regularly as part of a fishing club. It is certainly a lovely area to fish and stay in. If you are in a motorhome/caravan, you could do worse than camp at Pondolowie Bay in Innes NP. No power but does have long drop toilets, and is reasonable sheltered behind the sand dunes. The point near the island at Pondolowie Bay is also a good place to try for salmon, although you need to cast into the bay, and use a float due to the rocky bottom. The Marion Bay Caravan Park is also nearby and of a decent standard if you prefer.
Have fun and bring back some good memories!
