If you want to fit an alarm for LPG you need for it to be at floor level as LPG gas is heavier that air. I also fitted a CO2 alarm at the same time and fitted it overhead the bed as CO2 is lighter than air. also as the normal, smoke alarms at both ends of the van.
In all cases you can get these alarms from such places as Bunnings or similar. As far as I am concerned all the warning is warranted given the confined space in most vans.
hope that helps

Carbon dioxide is heaver than air put both sensors down low, the LPG would be good near the stove as that is where the greatest chance of problems occur, CO2 near where you sleep. I purchased a carbon monoxide (CO) sensor it is the most common cause death where unburnt gas is found especially from heaters.
LPG has a odourant added to make detection easy however I remember my aunt with singed eyebrows after she hit the igniter on the old Viscount when someone had left the stove on.
So my order would be LPG, CO then CO2 last.

I mounted our LPG alarm on the left side of the step. Mounted a switch next to it so could be turned off when the Van is not in use. Also have an inline fuse. Our door opens from left to right.
Prior to the install did a test to confirm it works.
However I have heard that some mounted on the step with lower vents on the door, can go off due to dust when travelling. We have not had that problem, Or have not heard the alarm go off in this situation.
