There are a few house sitter organisations. See this list of organisations. Open each link on that list and see what their requirements are. That should give you a guide. There seems to be some on this forum who want everything for nothing. If a home owner does not get an agreement in writing then he is leaving himself too open for abuse.

In no means are my saying anyone here would be like those nutters . From memory they came from NT or was up there ., I have rentals looking at things from different angle . I do know from personal experience how things can go south ., just a discussion here guys . Sheesh ..
I'm surrounded by renters, except for one home owner. Every fence that borders a rental property is dented, and every dent is a constant reminder of every inconsiderate lowlife that has come and gone. Needless to say, the only fence that isn't dented is the one that is shared by two owners.

I have sat in the back stalls reading this thread with interest as I do some house sitting myself, I don't belong to any group or website, just go with word of mouth only. I wasn't going to say anything but think now is the time.
I have been around here for some time now and have seen many "stirrers" and some trouble makers arrive, do their thing then go for whatever reason, some get banned by the Webmaster, some might be given the opportunity to leave peacefully and others just leave. Some are still here though. Then there are the ones that leave because of the trouble makers and decisions made by others. I have had a couple over the years try and annoy me so I go but just ignore them, thank goodness for the mouse.
I got very close to leaving late 2014 and again late last year but that mouse got a good workout. I also late last year took a break from "tuning in" but returned when some members got concerned I wasn't around.
Mate, just give your mouse a workout. You will very quickly work out who not to click on and not take notice of.
Having been a tenancy manager in public housing sector in working life it has occurred to me that when house sitting the odds are stacked in favour of owner...for instance, how do we the sitters even know they are the owners? If I were doing a house sit in future where I had uncomfortable feelings I would take dated photographs of house inside and outside on day one, and again just prior to leaving, to cover myself.

Having grown up in country and now living in Sydney .. People are more easy going in country areas . Where are most house sitters mainly used ?? I have family almost as neighbours . I assume most would be semi country ? As there's no room for an RV to stay in
Metropolise ., lol
