Hahaha, now you'll have suggestions for the design of a "grey nomad" flag filling the posts here John.

And a new flag will be needed when we finally sever our colonial ties with the mother country.

Come the revolution!

Hhmmmmmmmm none of the six choices offered inspired me ........ I will stick with the one we have already.

I would also think the 8,000 respondents where actually from Sydney as well so perhaps not a true reflection of Australians....

Very colorful indeed & a nice design! Haven't the Yanks just banned the importation of our Kangaroo meat into the US?

Qantas would love it! I think you will find out that Indigenous Australians would rather keep their own official flag then to have it incorporated into another flag, to date I haven't seen one design that inspires me, although if it is changed I would like the Southern Cross to stay, white on dark blue.

haven't seen a good "official" flag proposal yet......the one with a wattle flower on it looks ridiculous.

The Kiwis came up with some good designs with still included the stars, but was very NZ (no - no sheep lol) and looked smart - surely we can do as good as our neighbours?

Can you see all those young blokes who have the Australian flag tattooed on their bodies voting to change it.
Although Ray Martin said the diggers did not fight under it I am sure we had the same flag in Vietnam.
AS far as I'm concerned why go to all the expense of change when things are working just fine now

My Father served in the ARMY, My Brother served in the NAVY and I served in the WRAAF..touch my flag...DONT...as for becoming a republic ..CRAP..our pollies are so so but we voted (or some dills did) them in, when they screw up, they get tossed...just look at American Disaster, that looney can decide the country is in big trouble and declare it, then total power is his even though he is due to step down..Hell we may not have the lucky country title for much longer but why rush it...just my opinion...Salty

I didn't serve the flag, the oath was to Queen and Country when I joined and it should change to just Australia! I didn't quite get the reference to America.

I see all this guff about changing the flag as a precursor to us becoming a republic. Its being pushed by a lot of rich guys (don't tell me Shorten ain't rich). The Brits many years ago signed a thing called the Magna-Carta that eventually gave the little bloke some degree of protection. They have had fairly stable political system ever since. The yanks have a system where the rich get richer and the poorer can go to hell. That's what Obama has been fighting against. You want that to happen here? I have no objection at all to us having an instantly recognisible flag of our own but an american/african style political system - NO THANKS

except for the Eureaka flag the rest look like they came out of a cartoon show.

the original owners so called should have no more say than any other group.

we are all Aussies who says they are the original owners they just happened to be here when white man arrived.

Kev, what I feel is we have the most open honest system and it works, we may not always like what they do and say but if enough little folk band together we will be heard, the American system (which the powers that be want) after 20 odd years studying it, is so  dicey it is scarey..spend some time just going through this last presidents actions, it will prove just why the USA is losing its world standing. my opinion ...Salty

Hydla &Jon,congrats on your great design, I designed a flag with the Qantas style kangaroo yellow on a half red half blue background. However I like your design better as it does incorporate the very strong colours of the indigenous flag Along with the southern cross.

cheers,

Gary C.

As much as some people don't agree I really believe we should include the Colours of the Aboriginal Flag as well. There are some very nice designs in this thread that cover both current flags. I wouldn't like to see the Government forget the Aboriginal people and their flag if changes ever take place. I like both flags and have no problem with both being combined, much better being ONE anyway.

We need a flag that stands out at events and functions. I will be proud to fly a combined flag.
