It has been mentioned before on this forum and i agree. Yes i think we need a flag of our own. ( Australia Day ). We have stickers (mines on the back window) hats, and also stubby holders ect. And there are still comments that it is hard to tell a G /N from this forum (accept at greens) whilst camped. So maybe a small flag about the size they have on car windows could do a lot here. May be time for a referendom. Example the Eureka flag with a capital G N in opposite corners. Hang it on your awning. May be a theme for a compitition. Cheers.
Good idea. Despite our many long travels, and meeting a few GN's (probably parked next to many more and not known through lack of recognition) we have never seen an RV with a sticker on it. Maybe the sticker needs to be more prominent in colour - don't know. Also many have issues with putting stickers on their RVs, other than on windows where paint is not damaged. I suggested on the previous post of this topic that we have window stickers, but they need glue on the front of them, so they can be stuck on the inside of the window. Stickers anywhere on the outside of an RV don't last very long with the heat, dust and rain before they fade out, get shabby or start to peel off.
A small pennant flag as dishlicker suggests would be good - put it on your door window top when stopped for the night - easier for others to see - easy to put on and off.....

We're all for having a flag of our own. As a gesture of reconciliation why not adopt the Aboriginal flag as our National flag? We'd have no objections. After all they were living here peacefully a long time before the Poms arrived (invaded).

I suggested a flag on this forum a couple of months ago (my second attempt) and got a very mixed reaction, some positive and some negative.
We have only identified one GN in the last 3 years and that was at Greens lake. Some people want to protect their privacy. At some time or other we all do, but flying a flag is not compulsory, and the little Australia day and footie finals flags are easy to store and quick to setup and remove.
However I am not keen on borrowing an existing design, not sure about the legalities either.

DD up to now, except for yourself, no one has sought to make this topic political but if that's what you want; just because they have been here longer does not mean they were here first or
confer ownership.
As for comment on the topic, I do have GN stickers on my van, they have been acknowledged by only one, (DUNWURKUN), in possibly two years. So yes I am in favour of something more
If we were to have a flag, I would think it would need to be the same as the greynomad stickers. Anything else would be totally confusing. Other facebook camping sites have flags, they match the heading of that particular group.
How easy is this to see?

We don't have a sticker, because we are a bus with no back window, and the front ones need to be clear (including the door). Putting a sticker on the paintwork is a very bad idea. Would love a GN flag......

I am a bit confused here. Is it a flag for grey nomads or for Australia? If its the latter, I am at some sort of loss why anybody would have the aboriginal flag emblem on our national flag. After all, that flag only came into existance in recent times. Before white settlement, Aboriginals were sort of tribal, not nationally united, and as such had their own rituals and customs. "Their" land was a series of tribal areas, not jointly controlled by an Continent wide "government" as such. Whilst we "conquered" them many other countries have been "conquered" by succeeding races of people. We are all Australians. We are all immigrants. Even the aboriginals have issues with the Mondo man up near Menindee, and do not agree that these people predated their arrival, yes arrival, on this continent. My heritage is from England and India. Just about every person living here is an immigrant or of immigrant heritage. Does that entitle us to have our national emblem on the flag as well? If people have an issue with the Union Jack on our flag, by all means remove it, but lets not replace it with some other race or national heritage emblem of another country. I have no idea of what I really want, but I certainly know what i dont want on our flag.

The confusion may have come about because the topic of a New Aussie Flag was raised recently on SBS.
I thought dishlicker who started this post was referring to a Grey Nomad Forum flag or similar - not a national flag to replace the current Australian flag (whether or not its good or bad is not for here - I suspect it wont be too long before we go the NZ way and have a referendum on it)

I thought the same thing. As for the Australian flag debate, I'm staying out of that one. Too emotive....

I think he was, but it got confused later on. Maybe the mention of Australia Day in the OP?

Thanks everyone for your input into this. It is a great idea and I would be happy to look into creating and supplying a GN banner for people to fly when they are camped. We did look into this before but the supplier that we initially approached had some issues with the sizes that we requested and they didn't come back to us.
Anyway, we'll get things going again and will let everyone know costings and when these would be available. Watch this space.
