Wow - memories of that - thanks KJ - I was living near Ipswich at that time, Boonah, and we were cut off for three days, the fuel stations almost ran out of fuel, though why buy fuel, when you can't get out of town anyway!!!!! Wyaralong, a new dam - between Beaudesert and Boonah was filled in 25 days, instead of the two to five years predicted by the authorities, when it was constructed.
My friends and I went to Ipswich, having cooked hundreds of scones, pikelets etc., and took them around to businesses where people were trying to clean up the mess from the floods from the Bremer River. We then worked for a few days in a Recovery Centre, her little boy went through his toys and bought a huge garbag full for the kids to occupy them, while parents dealt with paperwork etc. Some very sad stories, a lot of people just wanted and needed to talk about what had happened, a man couldn't find his partner, did not know where she was, but he had their baby, wouldn't let the child go - so sad at the time, but the mother was found safe and well, but very wet and exhausted.
