There are big queues there, I suggest you arrange to meet somewhere like the tourist office after the ship sails. Use PMs and you can pass phone numbers.

I hope none of you are booked to sail on the next day or three - see this link - The ship on the other side can not leave either until the Melbourne wharf is repaired.

We did our sums when planning this current five week trip. I really want to go to Tasmania but the ferry cost was 1800 dollars. We decided that could buy a lot of petrol to tour around Victoria and will do Tasmania later when we can stay for a few months. We still have 2 more weeks to go and have done about 3000 kms so far. Having a ball.
