Urgent help from pooter techs please

Gday...

I've got a friend with a PC recently upgraded to Win 10, worked for a few months, now suddenly as of yesterday, the screen goes completely black after the first windows logo.
Also, exact same thing happens when booting from USB recovery drive - logo, spinning dot circle, then black screen.

My friend has searched the internet for hours but not one problem matches this description exactly. All solutions online allow recovery options.
Cannot get into Windows or use recovery media, it seems.
What is the cause and what is the solution?
Is it software or hardware?

The whole Acer All-in-one PC cost him $401 brand new only 2 years ago.

Cheers - John

.. just had another thought!

After I did the upgrade from Windows 7 to W10 on one of mine, I did have an inconsistant screen behaviour which I put down to stress in an 'older' graphics card.

This was however when I was only using Firefox ..

The simple thing that did fix it for me was by going into Firefox / options and remove the tick from the" use hardware" function.

If however, he doesn't use firefox, it still might be worth looking into something along those lines .. (understanding he has to get in there first !)

Gday...

My friend said that he thinks it seems like video card issues, but it's motherboard/GPU/CPU all on one board. cry

He says he will have to wait till Monday to get a price for replacement. He'd hate to replace the board to find the problem is unchanged. cry

Cheers - John

Sorry to say Rockylizard ( John ) they are thrown away machines this days
We just bought another Asus
the last one lasted 8 years what is still working on 240 volt
Got a new battery for it a few weeks ago but the system has problems charging the battery
So it was now time to update
So far so good only it got Win10 and that is still a disappointment to me
I hope this new one will last that long as well

Cheers John

You will need to be able to boot to safe mode, look up what keys to hold down during boot up to get to the boot options menu.
Sometimes it is F10 or escape keys look up for the actual model or brand.
Because he sees the logo means the video card is OK and it is probably trying to load an updated driver for something in the computer that is not correct, the boot menu offers a safe mode that by passes loading all the fancy drivers network etc. So you can then restore the original drivers that did work.
Luck and Patience (prayer and supplication could also be beneficial)
Cheers,
Brian

.. as Brian is saying .. or failing that .. if you are able to restart the computer during boot up (white windows symbol with circling white dots) two or three times, it should then boot you into repair mode, which you can then use to boot in safe mode.

Thanks for the ideas and assistance.

My son is a pooter tech and today found the issue - QUOTE: Thousands of corrupt files on the boot volume. Who knew. UNQUOTE

All fixed now and the bloke should have gone to my son first
