While the subject of weights are fresh in everyones minds I would like to take this oppertunity to thank the people, Colin in particular, from the Caravan Council of Australia who assisted us with our new caravan. (Being built far too heavy, not according to our plans and a possible accident waiting to happen).
With Colin's vast knowledge and experience on the subject we were able to negotiate our way out of the contract without any financial losses. We can only recommend if anyone who has a weight issue with a "new or second" hand van to contact the CCA for assistance.
A warning for all when ordering a new van "Check your caravan weights before handing over any money, and check they build a van that is not overweight when loaded".
Thanks also to Collyn Rivers who put me in contact with the CCA.
Certainly a great result ........ but a situation that should never have occurred in the first place. Not enough very strict guidelines and competency examinations in place for caravan manufacturers.
Does make you worry about the rigs some people are towing around the country.

I had a thought but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
Having spent 2 years "full time" on the road in our old van in 2013-15( and 10yrs travels as well) it amazed me the number of vanners towing that would be over weight, many of them upon talking with them either had no idea or did not care or thought it was important!
I think the bigger worry is the number of manufactureres and dealers who also have no interest, only in getting your dollars. I for one feel it is only a matter of time before there will be an all out blitz by the authorities vanners and weights. Once they see the numbers of overweight vans I think then checks will become more often, as with trucks etc.
