First section of travel Brisbane to Karumba

Hi, once again looking for some experienced nomads to advise us which is the best way to go, inland through  Roma, Mitchell, Charleville, Longreach, Winton etc and onto Karumba or do we go the coast road to Rockhampton, inland to Longreach and continue on or go to Innisfail and across.

We are not in a hurry to get anywhere and should leave our home around mid April 2016.

Any advice or info will be appreciated and taken on board.

Thanks and have a good evening.

Very hot and muggy here in the Redlands area

Cheers for now and all stay safe and well

I went Brisbane to Augathella to Blackall to Longreach to Winton to Cloncurry to Burke and Wills road house to Nornmanton to Karumba , There has been some rain so should soon start to look a bit green .Roma worth a look at and Mitchell has nice thermal pools , Charleville worth a visit then take your time up to Karumba , We headed home through Croydon,Georgetown and to the Atherton Tablelands then onto to coast down the Bruce Hwy to Brisbane.

Last time Lake Eyre filled half of the Australian population ended up camped there. Didn't they end up having to leave due to a rat plague?

Yes Keith

there was a rat plague the last time the lake filled.

However, I think you meant this for the Lake Eyre thread, rather than the Karumba thread! If the OP ends up at Lake Eyre, they really have taken the scenic route to Karumba!

Hi Thanks for the replies.   We are leaving mid April so still at home at the moment.  We actually bought the motorhome in Melbourne and drove it back to Brisbane in just on 4 days (had no gear with us) and have had a trip to Baffle Creek and Elliott Heads just before Xmas.

Getting things organised to go away for 8/9 months is a big job.

Worst is Telstra won't suspend my home phone/internet whilst we are away. It is a case of pay or disconnect service!!  We have just yesterday purchased the Telstra 4gx Wi fi and so far so good.

Few minor things to be done to motorhome before we get going.  Looking forward to it immensely and if we end up in Lake Eyre like Guru says we have gone the wrong way??

Cheers for now Peter and Barb
