I got it right yesterday fully fuelled both cars and combined took 105 litres and today fuel in our local area went up by 26 cents per litre, I know it's not like winning the lottery or lotto but it sure feels good to get it right every now and then, hopefully it will last through till the price drops again this time only paid 1.007 Cpl for unleaded

I went out to fill the town car at a WW servo down the road but they were $1.34 for unleaded so I continued on past a Freedom at $1.09 but got it for $1.04 at a Matilda 1/2 km from home.
The ACCC investigations are a joke. The just put their resources into trying to score points against Telstra (though they are quiet on that front too lately), rather than doing their job with respect to where the majority of our cash goes ... Groceries, Power & Fuel.
The independent servos warned us years ago that once Coles and Woolies got control of the retail fuel market, prices would keep going up, irrespective of the crude oil prices and the Aussie $ exchange rate. These two then conned the public with the big price discount vouchers, till they had market control, the ACC helped them along by "stopping" them giving such big discounts. Now we have expensive fuel, very expensive goods in their shops and not many independents.
Once again in Perth the big two were flogging diesel at $1.34.9-1.39.9. Went to an independent at paid $114.9.9 - he was as busy as :)

I reckon we should all help the independents , just proves they may not be making such a large profit but, while they keep going , they are still making a living and proving what a big slice of profits the big boys are taking.
I did a search on Fuelwatch yesterday to find the cheapest fuel in our area (south of the river in Perth)
I entered a search for any fuel out-let, and then found the Big Boys were well down the list below the Independents, starting at about 8th place.

If the rule of thumb was to apply that for every $1.00 a barrel drop in crude oil a drop of 1 cent should apply at the pump in that case we should be down around 86 cents Don't hold your breath people.
As for the ACCC that's the new species of gummy shark isn't it Your right we can go without a phone but the essentials we just get ripped off without the slightest concern of Govt's the revenue generated by GST and excise come to mind that makes them so blind to the real issues

a couple of minor points to consider when purchasing fuel when using a discount voucher from Woolworths and Coles.
1 if you purchase 60 litres you will save $2.40 using a discount voucher from big two. I personally dont think this saving is worth having when you realise the damage they are doing and the amount of control we are giving them over our lives.
2. Even on the purchase of 100 litres you will still save less than the cost of a cup of coffee
3. should you purchase this quantity each week for a year you will save $124.80
4. that assumes that all independent servos in your area are charging the same as big two, we have a local independent that is usually 2-3 cents below Coles & Woolworths
5. if you are lucky enough to have a super IGA in your local area then they will give you the same 4 cents per litre off your independent fuel supplier if you produce your receipt when shopping and the cost of groceries are usually no more expensive and sometimes cheaper than big two.
Its also worth remembering you are paying a tax on a tax for every litre of fuel you purchase thanks to our efficient and effective Governments.
