Brake controller for Toyota Landcruiser 200 series

have just purchased a Landcruiser and need to set up for towing. I had a Prodigy brake controller in my Pajero but always seemed in the way of my legs. Any suggestions where to put it in the Landcruiser as I think I will have the same problem or should I consider Redarc

Hi Jbrinks,

We just had ours ( Red Arc Tow Pro) fitted on 23/12/15 to our 2012 GX 200. The GX is key start, and has a blank cap instead of the push button starter. The Auto electrician at first did not want to install it there. Said there would not be enough space behind. BS. I had already remover the cap and knew there was.

Its now installed as neat as a Pin. I will take a Photo in the morning and post for you. He wanted to do the install on the RH blank panel. but in this location you would be looking for it.

Mine is in full view and easy to use.

Regards Jim

We have just installed the go pro to a 200series GXL, it has been installed in a blank plate to the right of the steering wheel, the body has been installed and fixed directly behind on a body beam.

Ask your auto elec to use a series 250 four pin plug and socket and then just use self adhesive velcro to place it wherever you want.

Hooks to controller and nice soft loops to dash.

When you aren't towing you can just rip it off, unplug it and stow it.

I think you should go to the Redarc website and check out the installation instructions for the Redarc Go-Pro and Go-Pro Elite before you make comments about using plugs so you can remove it and store it when not in use.

One question on the Redarc. How easy is it to accidentally turn the knob of the controller. or is it locked in place until depressed or pulled out to adjust.

Hi Alan,

We are first timers with ours. Its up on the dash as per the photo's. (A safe yet very handy position, and good visual too.)  I can turn it by hand like any radio knob. Its  meant to glow brighter  the greater the braking applied. I have yet to read up on the settings. The booklet that comes with it has lots of info. So just for now I have left it where they set it on No 1.

The higher you turn it, as I understand. The more braking is applied by the Electro magnet on each wheel. The black knob in the centre you push twice in quick succession to override to apply maxium braking if needed.

Don't go by what I have just said, as I have to read it over and over to lock it in to the brain.

Someone here will reply with the correct answers shortly.

Regards Jim

It would be very had to knock the control as you would have selected a position on your dashboard. I it was knocked you would move the button first which is the override.

I would have had more chance of knocking the Prodigy at the location near my left knee in the patrol we had.
