I've recently purchased a weber baby Q and now I'm wondering where to mount a second gas bottle to use with it. I will probably carry the weber in the back of the tug due to lack of anywhere in or on the van. So my thoughts so far are that I might mount the gas bottle on the rear bumper beside the spare wheel , as there is no room on the a frame. So my question to you experts out there is is this legal? I would remove the bottle from the van when in use so would not need to attach any gas pipelines to it when on the van.

no reg states no bottles on the rear bumper (incase of a rear ender)
bottles only inside of A frame (I know not many manufactures do this )
I am following this question with interest. With the gas bayonet you don't need the regulator on the Weber lead? And where are they located? Don't want the bbq right next to the bottles
Most home bbqs & also portable camping stoves are pretty close to their gas bottles & rely on you being diligent with connection fittings & checking for leakage before use.

Where ever you want it although the further away from the bottle the more the cost (extra pipeline and copper ain't cheap) Don't want the bbq right next to the bottles No you don't. Mine sits about 2 metres from the front of the van where the bottle are located on the A Frame
And how long a new lead do you use? About 1.5 metres although I've seen them as long as 5 or 6 metres. Don't know if they're legal though)
You can buy a 3mt hose from Jayco spare parts. It has a bayonet fitting one end & a fitting the other end to connect to your weber. Was $56.95 in June last year.
Thanks everyone, I've decided to go with the bayonet so will now get the plumber on the job and head for jayco spares for a hose fitting.

Love the Freedom Grill mounting idea. Can be easily adapted to fit to a jockey wheel clamp on the drawbar or the rear bumper (just like your Sat Dish pole), or on the side of your van as in the pic, then you just insert a platform for the Q to sit on and plug in that gas bayonet.
Looks like you've got it all sorted now, but we have a Baby Q and carry a 3rd 9kg bottle in the rear of our ute. To stop it tipping over or the bottom of it cutting into the tray rubber mat, we keep the bottle in a plastic milk crate. Fits just perfectly - doesn't rattle around, but not so tight that you cant get it out easily for a re-fill.
We carry the 3rd tank for two reasons. 1) Our van has a bayonet fitting for such a BBQ, but it is attached underneath the van on the metal frame. Difficult to get to on rough surfaces as you need to have stubby legs (which I don't) or lay down on the ground (even more difficult to get up again lol) 2) The price of a gas refill in some areas can be up to $50, rather than less than $20 in major towns and cities and a 3rd tank means we have gas for many months - even using gas on our 3way fridge and the oven and stove top frequently.
We got burnt (yep - a weak pun) with our last 'van when we use the "swappa gas). A couple of months later we were in a small town and could only get refills - low and behold - both inspection expiry dates were over on both bottles. We had to make a major detour to get new swappa bottles. This time we keep the bottles that came with our van 16 months ago so we don't get burnt again (obviously we check the expiry dates on the bottles each time we refill to remind us when they will need inspection
