I would think most campers don't sit in direct fire smoke for long before moving out of the smoke line whereas cigarette smokers are up close & personal with their smoke every waking hour. Most things in life worth doing involve some risk & camping with a campfire when permitted continues to be integral part of our travels & luckily we have never been cigarette smokers.
Well that explains it the Scandinavians burn pine and fir that stuff would kill a brown dog however we burn eucalyptus mainly it's like having a bit of a steam great for colds.
I have asked before about campfire etiquette. I love a campfire but I have often got a bit cranky with people who come along and camp pretty close to us
First thing they do is get the fire wood and set up the campfire a good distance from their van but a bit closer to mine, I can live with that until the breeze blows and
our van gets full of smoke. There are people on the road with respiratory problems so a little consideration goes a long way
God help us all, what do we do when there is a bush fire and there are a few in Aus. And all the wood burning stoves most of us were raised with, guess there is no hope for any of us

I reckon I have sat around maybe 20 decent campfires in the last 10 years ,however I dont go out of my way to 'suck it up ".So in future I think I will run the gauntlet and continue a very peacefull and calming part of the day .Cheers Westy
