"Double Demerit Points" comes into effect at midnight tonight.
Plus this year there will extra vigilance on obscured number plates (including plates that are higher than 1.3M or not visible at 20 meters at 45 degrees), overloaded trailers and caravans and unsecured loads (including roof top loads). At least the school zones will not be reduced limits for the holidays.
I was informed some time ago by the Transport Dept. in Hobart that the speed limit for towing a trailer/caravan in Tasmania was the posted speed limit.

The article above is from mid 2014, things may have changed.
I've only had one 10 K over speeding fine in 35 years, mind you I have had millions of dirty looks. No I don't cause accidents, I am just setting an example for all the idiots that want to get somewhere 15 seconds earlier than needed.

Which states are you reffering to!! That link has nothing to do with Police enforcing, ! it just states what the regulations are in each state !! Also where did your information come from re the number plates and overload come from, !! If you are going to post this type of Information, back it up with the Source !!
DDP from midnight in NSW - Source roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/campaigns/double-demerits.html A further NSW initiative is Operation Arrive Alive a six-week state-wide high-visibility Traffic and Highway Patrol operation focussing on reducing road trauma at commenced 12.01am on Friday 18 December 2015. The operation will run until Tuesday 26 January 2016.
The Demerit Points Scheme is a national program involving the allocation of penalty points (demerits) for a range of driving offences. I am uncertain of the interstate start and finish periods.
I posted the above link to clarify speed limits in all Australian States as I don't have a ready access to all state various regs and the link is a simple guide.
I am only aware of NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command enforcement targets for the holiday periods.
General NSW advice posted to community ; www.facebook.com/nswpoliceforce/
The information is out there so you may do what you will - As before I say stay safe.

Gday ...
That is correct - but not each state has the 'double demerit' initiative at any time - let alone in specific holiday/peak periods.
NSW does, and I think WA and perhaps SA ... but VIC does not I know.
[edit: but despite all that ... you are quite right to insist that we all STAY SAFE .... at this time as well as at all times during our travels.]
Cheers - John

True but; If you incur any of the driving offences listed (or the equivalent offence interstate), you will have the offence and associated number of demerit points allocated to your VicRoads customer record.
