We are on our 5th and final caravan. I love everything about our 2014 Jayco Starcraft EXCEPT the hard, rigid lounges. So after much searching and planning we have replaced them with very comfy swivle recliners with footstools. The material from the original seats made new storage bins over the wheel arch. Wall cushions were trimmed to top them, providing extra seats if needed. Velcro strips and plugs hold the lids on. The tri fold table which we rarely used, was removed and the fixed leaf was reversed to show the nice curved, trimmed edge. The wall into the bedroom was trimmed down, re edged which gives us so much more room. The new chairs are only about 3 cm further out than the end of the fixed lounge and they are moveable. We still have a few small cosmetic things to patch but it looks fabulous. I have a few before and after photos but they dont do it justice.
I just cant beleive how well it has turned out, I am just so happy.
Hi Kantiki.
Wow what a difference they make. I've got a couple of questions, what length is your van? And where did you get the recliners from ?
We've been looking at doing something similar to our van, its a 15ft windsor genisis but we aren't sure about having enough room to fit the recliners in. Where did you get your conversion done or did you diy it. It looks great, well done guys.

Our van 19.5 ft with double axle. We bought the chairs online for less than $170 each delivered. They come in boxes so they are assembled inside the van. This also included 2 matching ottomans. Hubby did it all himself, with intermittant supervision by me lol. The only extra materials we bought were glue, a staple gun and a disc for the angle grinder to cut a channel down the edge of the bedroom wall to insert the rubber edging frlm the other seat we removed.
Hi Kantiki, I am sure you will appreciate the comfort these chairs have, over the "bolt" upright seats the caravans normally have. Our number 1 tick in the purchase of our van was recliners.
However there are very few manufacturers who have this feature.
Hi,we are converting a bus at the moment and decided to put in chairs exactly like yours but wasn't sure we were doing the right thing but seeing and reading your comments gives me confidence that they will work they are very comfortable, we are about 6 months away from finishing can't wait, thanks for putting up this post, Danny and Rosina (hinobus)
Looks great, thanks for the post and the great ideas it contains.
We are in the same boat with our Jayco and have been reluctant to tackle a major alteration eventhough the current seating is awful. But you have certainly shown it can be done successfully.

Hi iana, just wondering if your chairs are bolted down or secured in any way.
The chairs are not bolted down, free to move, there are a couple of straps on the end wall to secure them during travel. This is a standard Jayco layout on the 24ft Silverline. Just to add, you should have at least 1800mm of space for the chairs to fully recline. I.e. a 6ft person lying prone.
In fact if you look at the picture closely you can see both chairs are secured by a black strap.
