If I am not in the mood for them, I simply hang up.

When I am a bit bored, I string them along.

My two favourites are the ones who tell me they have detected a problem with my computer and they can fix it for me. (Little do they know, my full time job is software developer and fixing other peoples computer problems)  In this case, I tell them, yes I do have a problem and I am so glad they called to help.  Then when they tell me what buttons to press, I am the most technically challenged person on the planet until they either get their supervisor to talk to me or they just give up and hang up.

The second one is when they call about my car accident.  I use the same tactics and advise them I am so glad they called to sort this out.  Again I wind them up.

I figure if I can hold them on the line as long as possible, they can't do the same thing to some other gullible person who is not so savvy.

After the call, I let my parents and inlaws know of the latest scam so they don't get caught out, as they are all getting on in years and could be caught.

I have been on the internet since 1992.

I have had a mobile phone since 1989 (iirc).

I *never* receive spam e-mail or sales marketing or other unwanted calls.

Do you know why?

It's because I *never* give my phone or e-mail details to people who don't *really* need them.

 You don't need to Mike, they can get you from a lot of sources, numbers are for sale OR like years ago we were the last name on the bottom right hand corner of the phone book,,, we got 100's of calls. Next phone book name moved back to normal.

The last bloke that called yesterday with an INDAN accent and said his name was TOM COLLINS, I couldn't help myself and said "If your name is TOM COLLINS them I am DONALD TRUMP and and you mate are a FAKE CALLER! 
There was a pause and no response before I hung up anyway but I guess that he was taken aback and was thinking of something and what to say.

We must be doing something wrong, don't receive any of these calls and the number of spam emails we receive in a year I could count on the fingers of one hand.

Perhaps we should feel discriminated against.biggrin

Im with Santa. Never ever had a nuisance phone call or email. Reading this thinking WT ? Theres a lot to be said about leading a quiet life and not exposing yourself to all this stuff. Thinking a lot of this may be self inflicted. Regards Pete

I too have an old Umpires whistle, reserved for the twisted or most arrogant callers. They never ring again after having their eardrums tested.

 

In relation to the Indian telemarketers, I just introduce myself as Virat Kohli....

Had one a few months ago who wanted to talk about solar panels. I told him I was so glad he called because I was selling raffle tickets for the boy scouts and I only had one book left to get rid of. Every time he tried to turn the subject back to solar panels I told him we could talk about that after we had sorted out how many tickets he was buying. needles to say he never bought any tickets so we never got to the solar.

Gooday, 

Had a new twist yesterday, had a bloke obviously from a Boiler Room, said there was $380-00 charge on my E-Bay account for Apple Gift Cards, did I wish him to cancel it, I asked what account it was debited to and he said NAB, so I said go ahead Pal, obviously a scam as he just hung up.
