We know a couple that had a marraige break up & the lady got the car. It was insured in her husbands name previously. When she got a new quote from THE SAME COMPANY to insure it in her name it was $300 less than the existing policy for the same car. If you notice your renewal premium rising every year don't just pay it. Shop around! Sly buggers these insurance companies.

Same with "Contents Insurance". How many of us just keep renewing each year with out taking much notice of the increases. My last renewal was for cover for $158,000 in contents. I sat down listed every item in the house and then priced replacement costs, with quality items. Came in at less than $80,000. Adjusted my cover bought wine with the savings.

I had the same problem with the insurer for the over 50s.

They increased the premium based on their increase of worth.

I told them to put the value and premium back to where it was as I wasn't concerned with replacement cost. They refused so I cancelled and went elsewhere.

Hello Jim I am going through the same process at the moment I am 62 and have been paying insurance all my life like most responsible people yet I have only made one claim. These days I shop around and of late I ask for a higher excess usually about $1000 which brings the premium down a couple of hundred dollars. I like to look at this as a genuine saving and if i am unlucky well they get their money doubled.
