Thetford Loo Flushing Water

Hello All

With the Thetford loo flushing water I was using the additive in the pink bottle but found over time this black gunk coming out with the flushing water. Now we use just fresh water with no additives but give the bowl a spray of pine o clean. Any good ideas out there for the flushing water.?

No, yours sounds as good as any,, but yes for whatever reason the water comes out discoloured. We have just replaced the pump in our Thetford, not a bad run at over 15 years,

We stopped using the flush facility on the loo and now use a 1 litre squeeze bottle like a large tomato sauce bottle - fill with water and then you can direct it where it flushes 'whatever' away more efficiently than the flusher does.
Uses less water as well - if you are using a portable loo it is lighter to carry the unit when top tank is empty.
Good luck.

On many vans the flushing water is drawn straight from the van's main water tanks so obviously there are no additives in it.

Why then are additives required when the toilet has a separate flush tank ?

Simply to grab a few more dollars I reckon.

I always wondered why too, your home toilet has no additives.

Maybe it is to try to camouflage the stink of the green chemicals that some people still use.  Generic nappy soaker doesn't need anything extra.

The pink fluid is meant to leave a film over the bowl which stops the nasty stuff from sticking to the bowl as much

I don't think the black gunk was caused by the pink additive, though I'm no expert? We gave away using the pink additive a few years back, it doesn't seem to do much at all & costs the same as the all important holding tank additive. Hasn't made a scrap of difference.

I put some dish washing liquid in the tank -I think it stops 'stuff" sticking to the toilet.

A friends water pump for the toilet kept seizing up - after he added dish washing liquid to his tank no more problems with the pump

What do you use at home to stop stuff sticking to the bowl?

All good info Travellers thanks.  Mabe the difference is shiny smooth porcelain flushed with about 10lt of water

compared to porus plastic flushed with maybe half a cup of water. I like the idea of adding dish washing liquid to the water.
