Water pressure.

confuseconfuseconfuseconfuse Hello all ,When at home or a caravan park &connected to a water hose I have to be careful not to turn the hose on full bore otherwise a leak developes from where the hose is connected to the van ,under the fridge in our van.It has unfortunately happened a few times ,

Hello Cruisaderhilton

Your leak does not appear to be pressure related as it happens at parks and home most vans are connected to the water supply via a simple hose fitting so surely the leak can only be a worn rubber O ring or poor connector to hose fitting. Plastic fittings are not as good as the brass ones and if you want to decrease the water pressure from the supply bunnings sell water pressure reducers 45 Kpa  giving good flow but at reduced pressure. Hope this helps.

I would be checking the connections behind where the hose connects, there may well be a loose clamp in there that only leaks when good mains pressure is present.

Leak definitely comes from check valve just behind where the hose fitting is inside the van ,I have installed a brass one way valve inline  to stop water running back to this fitting ,and have pulled the check valve out just to make sure there is no fault with the Oring inside the valve .Also tried turning tap to half pressure ,that seems to fix the prob. Have seen water seeping out of the valve when connected to a tap .but it only happens every blue moon .You would think that it was a faulty valve it would happen on a regular event .That's the mystry of it all JOHN ..

Turning a tap part way on only reduces the flow rate not the pressure. The pressure will still be the same, may take a bit longer to build up as the flow is reduced.

Digger is right, turning the tap down only reduces the volume of water and pressure on both sides of the tap will be equal.I suggest you buy a length of JohnGuest plastic pipe,a joiner, new pressure valve and route the water connection to underneath the van at the rear.A large majority of vans are plumbed to the rear exterior.Hope all goes well with your treatment in Cairns. Ian

smilesmilesmilesmile That's the value of forums like this ,there is usually someone with the answer to your prob,s Thanks for your imput ,I will reroute the water fill point to the back of the van thereby avoiding problems in the future it will only leak if at all onto the ground .Should have thought of it myself .JOHN.
