Avida(formerly Winnebago) v. the Yankee Winnebago

A few years ago the Yanks sued the Aussies about using their "Winnebago" name. The Yankees wanted to start marketing in OZ and wanted their own name. A settlement was reached and the Aussies changed to the "Avida" brand.

A bit confusing all round.

One large Avida dealership in Melbourne - Roberts World - adds this wording to its advertisements:

"These vehicles were not manufactured by,or by anyone having any association with,Winnebago of the United States".

I dont see any wording in the Yankee adverts along these lines mentioning the fact that their Motorhomes are either imported and/or built under license from the USA. If they're built here, does anyone know where?

Goodness me,the Apollo rental group has done a deal with the Yanks to use the name, when they could have easily done one with Avida, yes?

I'm just against imports taking over, but that seems to be the way its going?

Buy Australian whenever possible eh?

I normally try to stay on topic and I guess I sort of am but not Winnebago or Avida but with regard to USA made vans I have done a fair amount of research in this area and the vans built in the USA appear to be older in style to Ozzie built vans but as an example a van that costs $86000 and built by a very large Ozzie company verses a very similar standard and same size but with more included options like ducted heating and cooling plus more can be purchased in USA for $29600 plus Freight of $2000 and 240 volt appliances which cost approx $7800 which included door on correct side means total cost here for that van was a total of $39400 which makes it less than half the cost of an Ozzie built van.

Therefore the important question we need to ask is are we being ripped off by our caravan manufactures.
