Hi WAssa41;

                 Just be for your throw your money away, why not have your fridge checked over by a good fridge mechanic. Ok if the fridge is stuffed, it's stuffed, but untill you have the fridge checked out you will never know. Why not give Evakool a ring and find out who there service agent is and go by what they say. 10 years is not a long time for a fridge, you never know........the cost of the repair my be cheaper than the cost of a new fridge.

Good luck!!

Hi WAssa
I gather you are looking at the new Platinum range of Evakool, these have not been out for a "long" time and you probably won't get a lot of feed back on them.

I posted for information on another forum and did receive a couple of responses, all good from those who have them so far! Not a lot of history on them just yet.

After much research I decided to take the gamble and have ordered the 175lt for our new Crusader, due in the next week, only time will tell but hopefully they are as good as their portable fridge/freezers.

I decided to give them a go because I have heard tooo many bad reports about "W.....o" and some of the other brands of compressor fridges, some of the positives for me for Evakool were, excellent insulation, lockable catch for when travelling and a better fridge/freezer balance(135ltfridge/ 40lt freeezer). I know their compressor is out of China, but heck, what is not coming from China today!!

good luck with your decision
Ian

Thanks every one. I have spoken to two service agents and they both confirm that the cooling unit needs to be replaced. I thought that you could get it re gas it but it is a sealed unit and you have to replace the hole unit.

Hi Wassa;

             Just what do they mean by 'the cooling unit'. I hate with a vengence so called tecks trying to rip you off my saying the 'cooling unit'. The worst thing is the compressor has had it ~ done a valve etc in the compressor or is it just a thermostate ~ mechanical or more involved electronics . Maybe just a small leak that has develped over time. Did your so called fridge machanics put there guages over your frifge, this tells your if your compressor is working at the correct presures.

I don't mean to sound of at your Wassa , but as a teck from a nother field ( electronics ) i used to see it all as some tecks just giveing a broad discription of a fault when explaning to joe public. One of my pet hates.

Years ago a customer was about to gave away a 40" plasma television only for the simple fault of the digital tuner had stoped working on this Sony television ( analog was ok ) . Customer told me that a nother so called teck had said that it wasn't worth fixing , to throw it away and buy a nother set. This problem was a common and very simple fix, a blown underrated fuse on the digital tuner and the fix was to replace the fuse and up grade the fuse to a 1 Amp smd  ( surface mount device ) and about the size of a grain of rice.

As i said quick fix. I x Fuse $2 + 1 Hr Labour  ( $65 in those days ) and a retune of the digital channels + so total cost, $67 + GST. The customer was more than happy. Cheaper than going out to buy a new telly at a cost of several thousand dollars for a replacement.

As I've said befour I've seen it all.

Hi Wassa

I don't know were you are on the moment
But if you are around Caloundra were the shop is for Evakool
pop in and ask them to have a look at your fridge
most likely they will be able to fix your up like a new one
There service seems to be very good

That's ok valiant81 no offence was taken. Cursing Cruze I am at Coolum Beach at the moment and went to Evakool and they unpacked a fridge for me so I could get the true measurements. Very helpful company.
Cheers Wassa
