Congrats on your purchase. I have a Coromal so can't speak on the Jayco other than to say that there's a lot of the buggers out there. The owners I have spoken to generally love them so they can't be too bad.

Phil, i am not in the position to advise of any pros or cons but you could try the jayco travel and tips forum

there is always some comments regarding people's experiences with jayco vans.(much to the disappointment of the site moderator)

So correct me if I am wrong. You ordered your van without doing any due diligence? If you did due diligence then why after ordering the van would you be asking for any pro's & con's?

I'd check that the power points in the kitchen are near the bench where the kettle and toaster will sit. Our friends new Silverline has the powerpoints on the bench end where there is no space for these items and its too dangerous to run a cord across the back of the stove.

Jenny and Barry make a good point. Light switches are another - the main ones just inside the door. Its taken us over a year to every time turn on the correct switch for the interior lights and still have to try each of the others for the outside ones - 8 light switches all clumped together and the light switch for the ensuite is in a corner on the back wall - duh !!!!

U 1 ... Perhaps they are asking about what to look out for when taking delivery of a van. I know that I had no idea when picking mine up in 1999.

U 1 ... Perhaps they are asking about what to look out for when taking delivery of a van. I know that I had no idea when picling mine up in 1999.

Thank you for the kind words. That's the advice I was after when taking delivery, not through due diligence as Umpie1 wrote or is that Grumpie and you wonder why people are put off some forums.

I couldn't agree more about some of the negative "help" on these forums - some seem to be from Oscar the Grouch. IMHO if you cannot give constructive help then why respond!

Hi Phil, I have just taken delivery of a new Silverline. When you buy Jayco, you take what Jayco gives. After the excitement of taking the new van home. I have noticed crooked cupboard doors and un-evenly spaced draws. The wiring of the main electrical lead and plug that connects to the vehicle was done very quickly, and there are some wires going around a gusset on the chassis that will need tidying up and protecting. I am also very disappointed with the keys that lock the many access doors around the van. The keys supplied were almost blanks with only one notch cut in them.
The Jayco was half the price of the van I was originally looking at, and the amount of features and extras could not be matched by any other company for the price. So we have to except that things may not be as perfect as they could be, but the van looks so far very well made, and is pleasing on the eye.
I found the guy who installed the solar panels had sealant on his fingers, and will have to go up there with solvent and clean the glass. Compared with our first Jayco, this one is very good.

To be honest, "pros and cons"are things that you should ask about before the purchase. The phrase suggests features, or lack thereof. Manufacturing faults, shoddy assembly, poor finish, etc are something else.

Hi Bruce and Bev. I have a Silverline and solved the problem of light switches from day one by lableling them. Have not had a problem since. Go to Kmart and get a cheap labeler.
Phil, one of the early alterations I made was to the under body drainage. It was also done at day one and have never had a problem since.
Happy travels, they are a good van. Maybe not the best vans, but certainly better than most and by far the best for the money (in my opinion, I am on my third).
