Bushfire EMERGENCY WARNING for Grass Patch, Salmon Gums, and surrounding areas in the Shire of Esperance


Thursday 19 November 2015 - 1:24 PM Western time.............

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:
 The bushfire is moving fast in a south easterly direction.
 Burning embers are likely to be blown around your home. Spot fires are starting ahead of the fire.
 Firefighters are expecting the wind to change from north westerly to a south westerly at approximately 3pm. Western Time
 This means the fire may move in a north easterly direction towards Salmon Gums. 

The fire has broken containment lines near the intersection of Williams Road and Rollond Road, which is west of the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway. It is burning towards the highway.

A number of roads have been closed including:
 Coolgardie-Esperance Highway, in both directions between Norseman and Gibson Town site.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:
 More than 200 firefighters are fighting fires across the Shire of Esperance.
 Career and volunteer personnel from Albany, Manjimup, Northam, and the Perth metropolitan area were deployed to the area and have relieved local crews today.
 Aerial support is assisting ground crews.


EXTRA INFORMATION:
 The fire was reported at 7am on Sunday 15 November and currently there has been 120,000 hectares burnt.
 The cause of the fire is lightning.
 DFES is managing the fire.
