Just a couple of thoughts

Just a couple of thoughts.

First thing that jumped out at me after following the forum for a while was that there isnt a section for the angling nomad . I would have thought fishing would play a pretty big part in the lives of GNs , I know it will for me .

Another thing is a button that shows "posts since last visit"  . A lot of forums have this function and it makes following the forum a lot easier , especially if the time one has for browsing is limited .

Again , just thoughts , no need for a public stoning

Cheers Al

Sort by "Last Modified" is the best you can do.

A Fishing section??

Then we would need another sub-forum & poor Young Simmo would get further confused. LOL.

Maybe there is enough dedicated fishing sites already, I follow a couple.

Mike.

Up in the top RH corner you will see some links headed "Logged in as." Click on your nick name (profile name.) Then on the LHS you will see a heading "Profile," under that you will see a link "Settings," click on that.

There are a lot of wonderful options there to arrange the forum to your liking. A couple that may interest you are "Order of Topics" and "Email Digest of New Topics." The first one I have set for "Last Modified." This puts the newest answers at the top. The topics all have a little box at the LH end with a tick in then, that box turns to black after you have read a topic, if someone then answers the topic again it turns clear again. The second option sends you an email periodically with all the topics that have been answered since the last email. You can set the frequency of the Digests with a drop down menu.

Another option i would suggest you use is the "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages." A lot of people don't realise that they have been sent a PM.

Have a play with the settings and see how they react, don't change them more than daily to see the reactions.

Brilliant , thanks Peter . I'll have a play with that lot then .

Still think a fishing section would be a good idea , I know there are lots of fishing forums out there but most are not geared toward anglers that mostly just want to catch a feed .

Cheers Al

You would need to pm Cindy with your suggestion and see what she thinks.
Just commenting on it on here will not get any action.

General means something that does not fit into the other categories. If the subject will fit one of the other forums it should go there.

Pam , please . A hobby ? In the crafts and hobby section ?

Fishing is soul food , food for the table and a very exacting science , worthy of its very own section .

A hobby indeed , Pam banished to the naughty chair for the rest of the day.

Cheers Al

Cindy owns this site and forum. She is the Moderator. If you scroll down to bottom of page you will see Moderator in black and beside it Webmaster in blue. Click on that and away you go..

If someone who join the Forum and reads the rule you would see who Cindy is , A good idea would be to have a look at all sub forum of the forum and you would find out how the whole forum works no wonder Cindy is Bald and wears a purple wig

Swoffer, beware of the 2%ers, they don't write anything constructive but are good at criticising others. I've been there and done that.

Please note everybody, I did not name anybody, just made a general observation. Like you I am not perfect either.

Simmo.

Hi all,
Thanks for your input on this.  I am happy to listen to all suggestions to improve the forum.  I have considered added a fishing subforum in the past; however, I feel that then all other hobbies such as gold detecting, birdwatching, stargazing, etc would perhaps need their own section as well and discussions may then become too specialised.  I'm happy to add a sticky in the 'hobbies' forum where fishing issues can be discussed.  If that thread becomes busy it may be that a dedicated subforum would be warranted.
