Was doin a bit of a paperwork/filing cleanup and came across a friends 2006 note to me about mobile phone use in emergency situations. The tips haven't been tried by me as yet but maybe others can give 'em a go eh? (NB: were talking 2006 here so things could be way out of date?) Let's do a "mythbusters" and see if they're true or false or maybe ask ABC TV's "Fact Check"to try!
1/Emergency: the worldwide emergency number for mobiles is/was(?) 112.If youre out of reception and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile - we were lead to believe - will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you,and apparently this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked!!
2/Locked your keys in the car? Got a remote key? Hold your (active/turned on)mobile about 12(300mm)from your car door and get the other person - who might be 100 miles away - to press the unlock button on the other set of car keys holding it near the (active/turned on)mobile phone on their end. Your car should unlock.
3/Your mobile battery is very low. An important call is expected any minute. No charger on hand. Press the keys 3370 and a battery reserve backup is activated showing a 50% increase in battery.
4/To check your mobiles serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06# A 15 digit code should appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. IF your mobile is stolen, phone your service provider and give em this code. They will then be able to block your handset and make it totally useless even if a new SIM card is inserted. You probably wont get your phone back if its been stolen, but at least it cant be used or sold for future use!
If we all did this and it works there would be no point stealing mobiles eh!
I thought this post might create some passtime interest over a cuppa and end up with a laugh!
