mirrors

just read the search replies for mirrors  have  a question  ( yes another one  )

have 2 sets of mirrors   one older set  has a clamp like part that fixes to mirror and  has rubber  straps that go over   car mirrors to hold it   which i have used and work ok

just got a set of milenco ones that hold on with clamps

question is i really  find that with both sets that when connected ( with  the clamps )   they really give no space for the normal car mirrors  to move ie the clamp /holding part jams the mirror

am worried that the  towing mirrors will break the cars mirrors because of the thickness of the clamping part sticking into the mirror covers

has this happen to anyone  or am i again worrying over nothing ?

if people dont get what i mean can post pics tomorrow

dzcook , After many years of caravanning here and there I finally settled on one good sized mirror on the drivers side, and that does 99% of the job. On very rare occasions I might say to the Misses have a look in your mirror, but not often.

There is a saying, (Over kill). With that I am referring to equipment, not the cook, He, He, Ha, Ha.

Simmo.

Oop's, Oop's, I left the word DARLING out, after the word mirror.

We had problems with our mirrors coming loose all the time, we had to do up the clamps on the towing mirrors really light. We don't have to do them up as tight as that anymore after going to the $2 Shop & buying a roll off non slip rubber place mat stuff ( the type you put on tables to stop the plates & cups sliding around). We cut a strip for each mirror & wrapped it around before clamping the towing mirror on. They've never come loose since & the clamps don't mark or scuff the cars mirrors. Job done!

If you go to the ''Show us your rig'' part of the Forum then look at ''Good enough for what we do'' you'll see what we're talking about.

G'day David

I have been using Milenco mirrors for a couple of years now and find them excellent.

I clamp mine to the bottom of the mirror and you can see in the attached picture how it looks. I have had no issue with the clearance interfering with the vehicle mirrors. In more than 25,000 km I have never had a mirror fold back while travelling.

I too now have Milenco mirrors.  Tried clamping on the bottom but then changed to the top, which seems better for the Patrol.  They had been coming loose when clamped on the bottom.  Might have to try DD's solution.

In both cases I have trouble with the clamps fowling the normal mirrors but that is no real issue.

Unfortunately the Milenco on the drivers side still folds part way back with the draft of some passing trucks.  A stretch strap to the CB aerial bracket fixes that.  I'll have to look at tightening the Patrol's mirror fixing bolt to see if that solves the problem.

win Div 3 or 4 in Lotto and shell out $800 and get Clearview mirrors. We have them - they don't come loose, don't fall off and you can control them from the inside by your existing mirror switch. When not towing, just slide in to the closed position and you still have legal (and very large) side mirrors.

Best extra we ever bought !!

If I win Div 3 or 4, I'm off to the bottle shop.

Just put Clearview on the Ranger. Chrome with indicators. $885 fitted. Given all the money I've wasted on various clipons that have had all sort of problems, these Clearview will ultimately be cheaper. So far this year, I've purchased 4 pair. Two pair were returned as they were ill-fitting and two pair broke.

Another happy Clearview owner. Not cheap but worth every cent.
