I own a 11 month old Jayco Silverline. I was wondering how do you clean the white flyscreens that you pull up and down. You cant put any pressure on the white screens as they will come apart on the sides of the screen. My flyscreens dont look white, they look grey now from the dust.
$3.00 Don't tell anyone else. A can of Easy off red Lable oven cleaner.! Cover your nose and away from kids, spray on and rinse off with a fine mist from a hose, after five minutes.
NO MORE.
If you use a bit of used news paper and masting tape to protect the paint work on the van as you spray it on, as it is caustic soda and corrosive.
The caustic soda will lift it up and just hose it off fully.
With an electric screwdriver you can remove the whole blind/flyscreen cassette and take it outside where you can lay it on something for support & scrub to your hearts content.
There are 8 - 12 screws under the little caps that you can remove with a sharp object, like a needle.

We have done this a number of times successfully, until we realised the screens started to shrink. Have now had replaced, and won't be doing that again.

For your information, caustic soda will eat away aluminium. It is the main ingredient in an alumina refinery. At the basics, bauxite is dissolved in caustic soda and later in the process the caustic soda is separated from the alumina which is then "cooked" and becomes a powder.
Put a caustic substance on your aluminium caravan at your peril.

Thanks I wont be using oven cleaner on my delicate white screens.
Thanks every one for your suggestions, but I think I will use the water method...maybe put the water in a spray bottle and spray heaps of water on it, as I have 6 screens to do.

I just use heaps of water .. Jet spraying from top down .. Sometimes with car wash in applicator.. Open window to dry..
I use the vacuum cleaner with brush attachment on the screen doors on the house, it cleans them up real good.
For my screen doors I just use a wet cloth for that, but if I use the vacuun cleaner on my delicate screen windows, it will vacuum it up...lol.
On my old Jayco Sterling the windscreens were easy to clean just wipe with a cloth but the new caravans, the windscreens are so delicate you cant put any pressure on them.
You should take off your goggles, so you can read the notes in full. No one said here said anything about spraying the Aluminium frame or cladding and letting it sit for hours or days. This Lady wants help . The nylon flyscreens are the ISSUE HERE.
Domestic oven cleaner when used in the manner discribed will in no way have an effect on the finished product. When rinsed off it becomes TOTALLY Nutral.
Dust is attracked to the fly screens by road grim and grease from the kitchen. The product is used around the world.
In stead of your continual attacks on good folks on here, Only trying to assist others.
What is your fix, as it seems you have nothing else to contribute period.
Best regards Jim

In my younger days I attempted to make soap (ingredient caustic soda) in an aluminium baking dish, destroyed the dish, our back screen door and marked the top of the stove badly, a spectacular not to be repeated experiment.

Hey Jim, how about you not posting information that could damage a caravan's cladding.
To post information that is technically unsound, at best, and downright stupid, at the least, is very dangerous.
I am sure you have read or heard about people being sued for things they have posted on the Internet. Just imagine what could happen to you if someone's van got damaged because they followed your advice.
You need to do a bit of research before you post.
And as for my contributions, I think you will find most of them helpful and informative. It is just that I do not have a method for cleaning the screens so rather than post poor advice, I choose to post none at all.
Glad to help save you from a messy situation because you are probably quite a nice fellow when all is said and done.

Lighten up a bit Jim, there was no attack by the Phantom, only wise words of advice re caustic soda and aluminium, don't allow the two substances into close proximity.
The Phantoms contribution to this thread is worthwhile even if it only saves one person from making this mistake.
I would think Phantom advice is very wise , No matter what masking you do the product still has to run down on the cladding of the caravan , User beware . The method we use is one person on the inside and the other on the outside , Each with a damp cloth wiping in the same spot which does not put undue force on the screen .

Ok everyone to their own. Technically, if you feel uncomfortable using oven cleaner don't. full stop. I do use it on heaps of things, including the BBQ plate and reoil after.
Now How about Sugar soap diluted in a small icecream contained.( Please eat the ice cream first.) Two soft spongers, one working on the inside missers and Hubbie on the out side work in tandum.

As I mentioned before I wont be using Oven cleaner on my screens..as I am a bit scared of the outcome.
The sugar soap sounds like a good idea...I do have some in my cupboard, I might try this method. Thank you Jim
I remember watching some people cleaning the hull of an old steel boat and they used a sand blaster. If you backed the pressure of a tad maybe that would work!
