Being of the bloke persuasion and with little knowledge of the use and misuse of these machines I thought I would ask for expert advice. But I decided to ask here too
I read previous posts and decided to purchase a twin tub off eBay. Seems hundreds sold and no negative feedback and at $119 delivered a bargain. Before it arrives, what detergent should I be looking at? Wool wash? or others. And do I use fabric softener? Do I need to rinse in fresh water before spinning?
Phew
That will do for the moment.

Yes I read that thread Thanks I was unimpressed with the park washers on my last trip Sometimes the clothes seemed to come out dirtier So i get a little more self contained
If you are ever near Pinjarra, go to The Odd Angry Sock Laundromat. It has to be the best in Australia! Unbelievably clean and run by a really helpful lady. I took my washing in to do put it in the washing machine The lady asked if I had anything to do and she would put it in the dryer for me. When I got back she'd dried and folded it and had ironed all my shirts! No charge!
The question what is best? - The answer; It is best to soak washing (clothes only not linen and towels) in generic nappy san in a sealed bucket whilst travelling as it cleans the grease and dirt completely off. I have found that washing everything with "Cuddly" is best in small van machine - it obviates the need for extra rinse.
