Van Park Regs Reviewed

What's all this mean , well in a nut shell  it means the terminal objective is to create   more overpriced transportable cabin spots  higher prices  and fewer van/camping spots.  We have seen this happen over the years  when they allowed holiday cabins to be built in van/camping grounds  and over night  when the cabins outnumbered the van spots or the spots were far to difficult to access  they became over 50's life style villages and another van park was lost forever.  Obviously the Minister doesn't try to take his family away on holidays over any sought of holiday period, unless it can be dropped into the expenses box back at Macquarie Street.

Mr Stokes should get together with his counterpart in WA, who are reviewing all the laws regarding CPs, free/low cost camping and having caravans on private property. The WA proposals will be great for CP owners and property developers and a disaster for all RV users and tourists who visit (or who wont in future) WA

To be called a CARAVAN PARK there should be a certain percentage of tourist sites available to the traveling public. Preferably a larger percentage than cabins otherwise it should be called a CABIN PARK.

I agree there should be a ratio in my travels I've notice the van sites been moved to the rear and cabins put in their place. The average family of four can't afford a van site let alone a cabin and in the peak periods they impose a minimum stay of 7 days During Dec hols that's $2000.00 for 2 adults 2 children and the education minister wonders why parents take their kids out of school and holiday out of peak season

We for one won't come back to WA if we are unable to stay at some of the places we have this  time around.  It's a bloody long trip from the East!!!

The proposed WA regulations will make it easier for low cost/ free, self contained camping areas to operate. One good thing proposed is that overnight camping will be permitted in all rest stops and areas.

there are plenty of free camping in WA. If it doesn't say no camping we can stay.

so why don't the motel association jump up and down as these caravan park owners are taking away business from motels by putting in more cabins and units

Having now owner our caravan park for three months (us and the bank to be more exact) i think there are still plenty of smaller caravan parks with reasonable prices and still aimed at caravanners and motorhomers. We have cabins at our park, but only eight and then we have 40 powered sites for vans or motorhomes. The cabins at the moment are really what supports the park and we can understand the temptation to park owners to put more cabins in.
Our "park up only" rate has still not been used by any guest, perhaps it should be lower.
The answer is simple, if you don't like them, don't stay at parks which are more like cabin parks than caravan parks. Villatranquilla, we have already met many guests who say they will always stay in a cabin in a caravan park over a motel, most of them are either country people who like the extra feeling of space within a caravan parks grounds, or they are ex nomads too elderly to tow a van any more.
