the tug

Hi everyone ,

just throwing the tug photo up here , so to have a idea when we are posting about different van options before we buy

Cheers

2008 ford ranger  3.0 ltr d

Batwing awning we find good as we do a lot of short stays(atm) and find it easy to set up .

Tuff Dog  3 stage shocks and  springs

Long range fuel tank

2 batteries in behind the board in the back , inverter (came with the tug) the tug batt is for  the tug only .

Now all we need to do is decide what van we need for our 3 year trip

We have camped 4 4 days running 30 ltr waeco and lights(leds) and fans.Battries still had plenty of power left , and the tug started 1st go

Nice looking tug. Looks like you have a high pitched roof on your awning, in the avatar.. Cheers.

Great setup to utilise the cargo area,
I am also looking at either a Ranger or Cruiser,
I could buy 2 Rangers for the price of the Cruiser tho.

hi Graeme .
If we had the money ,we would have gone a cruiser").

My mate bought a 2015 ranger and has had it back to dealer , 3 times with faulty warning lights and gear box problems .

The newest is no always the best , But only the tried and tested of the years are the go .

Hi Ian. Welcome, I have towed vans and trailers throughout several States with loads of 2.5 tonnes with ease. Lots of hilly country as well. All done with a trusty reliabLe Ford Falcon Which would be one of the best and most reliable of 2WD tow vehicle on offer. In your situation it should be a breeze. Because I towed very heavy loads I had installed additional air bags to rear suspension but I doubt that you would need that. Good luck. Allen

Lots of van options with your choice of tug Pearla, looks great smile

Ian, no problem with your falcon, I had an XE falcon for years & towed a similar sized van, it was a great combination at the time.

According to the Caravan Industry / RACQ Towing Limits Guide for May 2012 - the ONLY ratings for Ford Falcons are 1200kg, 1600kg or 2300kg dependent on specific model and specific fittings. I don't know where you get 2500kg towing capacity from ???

Even at the 2300kg limit it states that is with a Ford approved towbar + levelling kit AND speed limited to 80kph when towing the full 2300kg - some models also require a mandatory auto trans cooler kit.

I originally looked into this as I wanted a tow car with 2300kg capacity to tow a van at 2100kg ATM - that would give me 200kg reserve capacity.

As it turned out I finished up with an Avan Aliner weighing only 1100kg towed with a Kia Cerato (1200kg ATM), and I didn't get the Falcon.

Read carefully. Load rating is 2300kg. I said I towed 2500kg regularly, naughty, naughty, but sometimes you just have to do things. Take care out there.
