Newby question re cassette toilet

Totally new to  caravans so please excuse my ignorance :)

Our Van has a Thetford C-250 cassette toilet which only holds 18 litres. Ok, I know what to do to empty the cassette in a caravan park. But, is there any convention for emptying such a cassette tank when living away from a caravan park. Can the waste simply go into a household loo?

Thanks,

John Kennedy

Thanks to the CMCA there are lots of towns that have public dump points. If you have Camps Australia wide dump points are in that
some reading for you
www.cmca.net.au/services/dump-points

Just don't dump it on the ground

No problem to empty in household toilet but try to avoid this as splash back is not pleasant nor the clean up

For the bush, get a decent shovel, and use it.

G'day and welcome. Do not empty the cassette into a septic system. It will harm the microbes in the septic.

Cheers

Apparently you can empty your cassette into a septic system...see:

We have no issues with emptying ours into our own septic because we use septic safe procedures and products.

if you need to empty then you need to empty

but please do it responsibly. We carry a shovel for those times when there just is not anywhere else.

Mmmm...... No the fold up camping shovels are not real good to use......... A trench works better than a hole...... Take care backfilling as it keeps coming back up to the top....... Don't just cover it with loose stuff as no one appreciates stepping into a cesspit...... For that reason don't put it too close to a defined path.

I can think of a few more but you get the idea. Lol

wikicamps also has a list of public dump points.......we carry a spade to use in case we have to dig a hole and emoty the cassette but havent needed to empty it free camping so far.

It amazing how many little towns now have dump points.

But if youre using your toilet for "both" ends, pleae make sure you dig a really deep hole for the waste if youre dumping it. Otherwise someone may stand on your waste or it will bring hordes of flies around for many weeks for those following you

Purchased a spare cassette for ours just in case there is no dump point handy when needed.

Plus ....... I hate digging holes in the ground, especially when there are tree roots involved, and yes liquid, even when it has lumps in it, is bloody difficult to backfill. Lol
